DS will turn 5 in january and we are finally getting round to night training. He's doing really well, we lift him once when we go to bed and that's it til the morning, no accidents for ten days [touch wood]

erm so... now what? Do i have to carry on lifting him forever?? Do we wait for a bit and then try leaving him without lifting him, to see if he can wake up to wee? Any ideas?

Lifting the child while he is sleeping does nothing, sorry but you've got nowhere at all. Think about it if the child is asleep while you lift him he's just peeing in his sleep, no change from usual apart from he happened to be over the loo - but he doesn't know that.

You need to leave him alone to see if he wets, the lifting is giving you a false impression

Horreur!

[chews nails]

OK, I suppose I'm at least saving on nappies [thinks positive]. Thank you SunshinePine - that's extremely helpful. Am going to wait until my washing machine is plumbed back in and then go for the big time.

Sorry to have been the bringer of bad news but someone had to break the bubble.

If you find the cost of nappies too much you could buy a pair of cloth trainer pants, that way you don't have to worry about the lifting (it wont do much) and then he will feel the wetness if he wets and it might help. Also if he gets up in the night he can take the nappy off.
