just keep trying it will 'click' meanwhile when hes soiled his pants plop it into the loo and flush then put his pants in and hold them and flush again much of the mess will go.
Is it worthwhile buying some super new spartacus/dr who/batman whoever pants purely for when he starts toilet poops as a encouragement?

Do bear in mind that peeing and pooing are completely separate functions, and the fact he recognises the signal that he needs a wee doesn't mean he recognises the signal that means he needs a poo. He may not be doing it deliberately.

If you think that he does know when he needs one, and is simply not happy using the potty for it, it might be better all round (and save a whole load of constipation later) to tell him that he can have a nappy for a poo if he asks for one.

Go easy on him - it's early days yet

DS did this for about a month after he was sorted with wees - it will pass!!! Have you tried offering him a nappy? DS would ask for a nappy, do a poo then we would change him. No fuss. I know it might seem like a step backwards but at least he is identifying when he needs one.

We are now having exactly the same with DD.

would a little seat on the loo help?

beforesunrise · 19/11/2008 09:52

my dd pooed in her pants for the longest time. in the end it took one particularly gross episode (poo trickling down her leg and on her favourite toy) to finally convince her it was better to go on the loo....

what i mean is that he'll get there eventually, don't stress.

i found that taking her to choose and buy her own potty really helped with motivation- so perhaps a special potty/loo seat of his own choosing?

thx for your replies
he is a strong determined little one but I do try to not get stressed

hmmm maybe a different potty for poos may work

dh is working away so I think this has upset him hence the poo in his undies
