I'm really excited about xmas for ds1 (2.7) he has been asking for his big present since the start of the year and we also have a few ideas for small things....

I'm concious (sp) though that I don't have the same feeling for ds2 (10 months). I just have the mind-set that he has all of ds1's toys, clothes etc. Now, don't get me wrong, I love ds2 very much but I just don't think of presents in the same light with him. It's also his first birthday soon and I have no idea about what to get him...

Is it normal to think like this? Anyone else feel the same?

Totally agree with you. Have 2 of each, so you buy all the usual toys for the first but get stuck with the second one. It's not until they get older and start having their own preferences. I feel bad sometimes that I'm not as enthusiastic for the second one. Could you perhaps add to a set you've already got? What about getting older DS involved in choosing a pressie? Mine get quite excited buying for their siblings.

Absolutely. We find it very hard to think of anything that dd3 (3rd girl in 4 years) wants or needs. She didn't care at 10 months, at that age a few second hand toys and cardboard boxes and wrapping paper keeps them happy, but since she was about 3 we've had to make an effort to ensure she doesn't just get her sisters' stuff. Now it's easier, she's 4, and we can get all 3 bits of the same big toy, for instance and they put it all together.

that's a good idea sdr hadn't thought about getting ds1 to help choose...will ask him closer to the time

Agree with you Fennel....have to make more of an effort when the are a bit older...

Glad that I'm not the only one who feels like this

i'm not getting DS anything, he'll be 10 weeks so in fact he wont care!! but my DD just turned 2 a few weeks ago and i have no idea what to get her at all, as she got loads for her birthday

Same here, with ds1 2.5 and ds2 9 months. Ds2 is getting books that are really aimed at ds1, but parcelled up for him, and some things to go in the toy kitchen we've got for ds1.

Nice idea about getting the older one to choose something for the younger.
