Hi everyone, just looking for a bit of advice - everyone always seems very helpful and wise!

Me and my dp are planning on TCC in Jan 09. we currently live in london in relatively well paid jobs and are trying to save as much as poss. My DP is getting very fed up with his job - he is training to be a patant attorney and its very dull and office based. He is keen to retrain as a furniture designer/maker - he is very creative and loves working with wood. there is a course outside of london which looks good. its starts in sept 09.

I really really dont want to delay TTC but dont know how managable it would be for him to be studying while i was on mat leave.. its really hard because while im all for following dreams etc im worried he is being unrealistic as to how he would make a career out of making furniture, but i dont want to be the evil witch that crushes his dreams! im just more realistic to his idealistic. I really want to be supportive but am finding it hard as ive got my heart set on TTC next year.

can we do both?! would love to hear peoples experiences/advice if any..??

how long is his course for?

IMO babies cost less in first year of life than later on when child care (if needed)and all the other costs start coming in.

If it were me I'd encourage him to begin his training sooner rathr than later- perhaps he could sell some of his craftsmanship as he trains? Get some commisioned bits and bobs done?

My partner is keen to retrain but with 2 small children and big mortgage etc is more difficult now.

keep talking it through together.
