Basically I need to know if what he is doing in normal or if I need to do something about it.

The problem is he throws EVERYTHING!!

from cups full of water to all food, to all toys to books, you name it he doesn't "use it" he just throws it.

Now you may think this is ok, to a point it is but he is now refusing to feed himself or drink himself, cos everything just gets thrown. He still wakes numerous times every night so starving him is not really ideal at the moment, one thing at a time!

Books, toys, cushions, contents of any cupboard etc all go flying.

This happens at everyones house, with anything he can get hold of.

So, is this normal? How do I deal with it?
He seems to not understand no either (although I am constantly trying).

Advice needed please

Oh dear. When my ds throws something (he's 15 months) I get on the floor with him, tell him off, put the item back in his hand and show him hw to lower it to floor or table gently and then tell him he's a good boy to which he replies "Gur Bur".
He doesn't do it to the extrent yours does though by the sound of it.
With the food, I decided that ds knows it's food so if he throws it on floor, that's that, it's gone. But I do find he eats more off the floor than his high chair.

He is quite bad and just seems to be getting worse. I'm wondering if its a phase or not?

I could tell him off but it means I will always be telling him 'no'. Not sure whether to just egnore or do something about it?

I think that's a judgement call on your part and what sort of parent you want to be. You could ignore it and show him that misbehaving won't get any attention at all. Me personally have decided to tell ds off at every given opportubity!! At first he didn't understand but he knows now and he knows when he's being a terror.
