How do you know when you're broody?

What is broodiness? Is it the case that if you have to ask then you're not? My friend has described it as having a kind of "void" in her tummy that needed to be filled, but I never felt like this.

To answer your question (as I've no idea of your personal situation) probably if you have to ask, you're not. For me it was being really aware of my ovulation signs and just desperate to conceive at that time every month and thinking about it non stop the rest of the time.

It's feeling that something is missing from your life because you don't have a baby. Even if you have other children.

I've felt like that in the past, that I had 'empty arms' that should have a little one to cuddle.

You're lucky if you've never experienced it, it can be crushing if it's not something you can resolve by actually having a child!

When you see a baby and want to nick it lol! Or if someone describes baby smell and you go all gooey eyed.

For me it is a hollow feeling in my tummy. It is a constant imagining how it would feel to be pregnant again. It is a feeling of empty arms, of wanting to hold yet another tiny bundle, a yearning to breastfeed (odd that once since i could not feed my first and did not want to even try to breastfeed my second)
It is imagining where the cot would go, it is lingering over the newborn pages of the Next catalogue when I should be looking at the 6+ section.

It is lots of feelings all wrapped up together, and for me they are sad feelings as dh does not want another

When you just ache for a baby.

Although I've been incredibly broody in the past I never wanted to 'nick' one. Other people's babies just didn't fit the bill, I wanted mine.

I was kidding with the nicking, juuule. And I know what you mean, there's nothing like your own little baby.

So for some of you it seems like an actual phusial sensation rather than just an emotional yearning? Is that right? I don't have any dc butwe plan on TTC in the near future, but I have never felt anything like what you have described....

Really really really wanting to buy pregnancy tests!

Before I got pregnant I used to cry and feel really jealous when I heard of friends' getting pregnant as I was seriously broody. Now I have ds it's wanting that special feeling of a lo kicking away inside and the excitement of the prospect of meeting them. And looking at lo's when I'm out shoping and going "awwwhhh".

when you hear that someone is pregnant and think "I wish that was me", I always used to think this until I had DS2 and now my first reaction is "thank god that's not me!!!"

I used to look at pregnant women and really want to be them

If I saw a newborn I wanted to take it home and look after it

It is a really strong feeling. Now that I've just had no3 I have completely lost that feeling and I am so relieved

I should add that the feeling was much stronger before no2 and no3 when I knew what having a person growing inside you/breastfeeding etc felt like. Before I had ds1 I just knew I wanted children so that was a bit different.

My ds is 8 months and i was looking at double prams on ebay the other day, i'm not pregnant and havnt dicussed the possability of another with dp. Now after reading this i realised i was staring at a newborn in the supermarket this morning.

plus i really miss being pregnant, that special almost secret feeling of making life!!!
