I thought dd had abandoned naps altogether a few weeks ago as she was completely resistant and bordering on hysterical when I tried to put her in the cot.
Happily, at 23mths, she has taken them up again with a vengeance, and we are all much happier. Result!

My daughter is nearly three and a half and is currently napping, albeit against my wishes. She only naps a couple of times a week now but I find it difficult to stop her crashing out as she gets to a stage where she just whinges and has tantrums as she is so tired. She probably won't go to sleep until later tonight but it's Friday so not too bad. Can't think how you would stop your child from napping if they were that tired. Any suggestions?

By the time DD was 2y she very very rarely napped. She would if she was in the car, but never at home or nursery. Sorry.

My DS1 is napping right now and he's just turned 4!

He did drop it from about 2-3 but once he started nursery he's really needed a wee nap in the afternoon.

In fact both boys are asleep as is DH so I have PEACE!!

DS1 3 years, DS2 3 years, DD1 2.5 years. Sometimes when she was four I remember her being completely hysterical at 4. or 5 o'clock and at my wits end having to put her to bed. Whereupon she slept until morning (ie 7am). So even when nap dropped, sometimes they still need it. Did make sure 2-3pm was quiet time even if they weren't asleep. Definitely not in playground or on outing at that time until they were at least five. Tried to avoid visitors then. Often sat on sofa and read story or listening to story tape. Afternoon film sometimes instead, but never felt that really refreshed them.

DD (2.4) will only nap if we're out and about - in the car or in the buggy, basically. If we're at home, forget it. Though she does nap at nursery.

first one napped at weekends until nearly 3, next one was nearly 4 (she loves her sleep!), next one 2 and a bit, the youngest was literally just 2 and stopped them completely otherwise she was awake until 8.30pm!

LoveMyGirls · 16/11/2008 08:47

Dd1 stopped about 2yrs
dd2 stopped when she turned 3 because she started nursery in the afternoons some days.

bruces · 16/11/2008 08:56

Mine stopped at 2.5 and i so much miss those days it would maybe be an hour or so but i'd have a coffee and read a book in total silence...............oh those days are so long gone now she's 3 now and thinks naps are for babies!

posieflump · 16/11/2008 08:59

ds - 2.5

dd - 2

although falling asleep in the car still happens - ds now 4

needmorecoffee · 16/11/2008 09:00

dd is nearly 5 and still naps after lunch. we wake her up after an hour.

candyfluff · 16/11/2008 10:39

every child is different my ds is 2.4 and he still has an hour to 2 hours depending on how early he got up in the morning.
ds1 stopped sleeping during the day at age 1 and dd 2 stopped having a nap at age 4

Gillyan · 16/11/2008 10:50

Hiya - my DD is 2 n 10months and still needs her nap time as she gets very grouchy without - although since she moved up to bigger class in nursery she is not sleeping there or only for 10 mins but then the days she is at home she is knackered. My friends little girl is 6 months younger than mine and doesn't have naps for days on end but she is a very chilled out little girl and seems to cope!

Biglips · 16/11/2008 10:59

my dd dropped her afternoon naps at 2.6yrs old...now she is 4.1yrs old..she still have naps when she needed to, about once a week if needed or otherwise she goes all ratty! (just like me! )

Umlellala · 16/11/2008 11:03

we are in evil transition time (dd is 2.6). she really needs to go the whole day without a nap - though I have to be 'on it'. However, she often crashes at 4 or 5pm, and anytime past 3ish means she won't be tired then til 9 or 10pm. Aaaaargh.
