Not sure whether to continue potty training or not?

My boy is 3 years old and I've finally got around to trying to potty train him. (His younger brother is 8 months old - which is why i've waited this long - couldn't cope with new baby and potty training). I'm 5 days in and seem to be having as many accidents as i am successes. this morning he's done two wees on the potty but only because i insisted he gave it a go and sat reading to him whilst he was on potty but he's also done a poo and a wee on the floor. yesterday was much the same but before bed he was downstairs in nappy and pyjamas and he took himself to the potty for a poo without any prompting.... So, cannot work out whether he's not ready (but at 3, surely he is?) and so should i stop and try again. if i do that, is it likely to be any better in a month or so? Or whether i should stick at it? any thoughts? suggestions? help!

Hello at 3 IMO he is def ready to potty train and it sounds like you are doing ok to be honest! I would keep going, do not put him back in nappies as it will just totally confuse him and lay on lots of praise and encouragement everytime he does go in the potty. At 3 he might respond well to a little incentive ie a star for each time he goes on the potty and 3 stars equals a couple of chocolate buttons or something. You will have to continually prompt every hour or so to start with but after a couple of weeks he should start to recognise for himself when he needs to go. Good luck xXx

Sounds fine to me, I did it at 2.7 with my DS and after 5 days, I was not doing as well as you. Keep going! Took 3 weeks for me not to have lots of wee/poo on carpet!

My DD started using the proper loo for wees, exactly on her 3rd birthday (she had decided that was when she would start wearing knickers), but I had to put a nappy on her for a poo, as she wouldn't poo in the toilet (we always went into the bathroom, put a nappy on, she pooed, and we took the nappy off and back into her knickers). It took her about a month and a half to be able to sit on the loo for a poo.
My DS was straight onto the toilet at 3 years and 3 months. Took a couple of days.
You are nearly there - don't depair! (and it rhymes )
