hi, just wondering at what age did people start expressing milk and feed from a bottle?

i would be interested in your experiences please.

i read that starting too soon on bottle baby can reject your breast?

I didn't express at all for DS. Do it if and when you feel like it.

Interested to hear what others say. I started expressing really early on and I think it did put my DS off the breast a bit, to be honest. Also, it messed up my milk supply - I was over producing milk and got really engorged = mastitis...yuck! How long do people advise waiting for?

With DS1 I started at 3 days old, due to issues with bfing but we were exclusively bfing by 3 wks, so it didn't mess up my supply or put him off the breast.

DS2 is 2 wks today and I plan to start later this week - I'll let you know how it goes. Can't wait to hand DH a bottle of EBM and DS2 and have an early night!!

MrsMattie how are you honey? only 10 more days to go!! we must be pregnancy and mummy twins! with ds i started expressing early on too (day 6) only to freak out to find i had a lack of milk rather than too much and i had been starving my ds by the way he gulped down the bottle of formula!

Jojay look forward to hearing how you get on! good to hear that with ds1 it didn't mess up your supply or off breast...thanks!

Hey prada! 10 days to go...I know..argh! Scary, but exciting. How are you? We really are freaky-ily similar

Never - more hassle than its worth IMO and can muck up your supply.

I started at 4 weeks but got nothing for a week.
When I finally eeked some out DH gave DD a bottle once a day (before we went to bed) until she was 6months ish.
DD then had bottle on the occasions I went out/wasn't around for another couple of months before refusing the bottle completely.
Still breastfeeding at 17 months and when I'm not around she has milk in a cup.
