Take away his favorite toy , this works for dd1 (4), she gets 3 warnings, 1)i threaten to take it away if she doesn't do as she's told. 2) i get a bin bag out to put the toy in, 3) toy goes in bag and out of reach.

Last week i took her playmobil ship away, she had to be good for the rest of the day to get it back, she was a little angel.

We also use the 'im going to count to 3 and if you dont do as your told you will have no chocolate for the rest of the week'

So if you're doing AK then taking a toy away isn't really going to do it for you, is it? I have similar issues with DS (also 3.5) sometimes and am also not sure what to do! Sometimes I do "time in" with him and talk him through the situation,. If nothing else this is boring to him and can sometimes calm him down (good when they're doing that mani runing away thing). I also find turning what you're asking him to do into a game is also helpful in enganging him and helping to stop me from being so wound up. Have you read Playful Parenting?

Will watch this thread with interest - I have always wondered what followers of AK do when the child won't play ball (having been a particularly stroppy child myself).

Oh it is so infuriating isn't it.

This only happens rarely in our house and on the days when a stern look and 'I don't think this is funny' doesn't work I have no idea what to do.

Pitchounette, oi, give me my DS2 back!

No real advice to give you because I am still struggling. DS2 thinks he is a comedian and I have a feeling he will always be like this.
