Sleeping problems after illness

Can anyone give advice please? MV (11 mnths) has just had 4 weeks of successive illnesses (sickness, flu & chest infection) that have disrupted her (previously good) sleeping patterns - and now cries like mad in the night, will not be put down after being settled, and continues to cry when left.... even though I can tell she's exhausted. its goes on for hours.
Do we have to take a hard line, and not go in to her?

She might just need a bit of time to feel well again - if she has had a run of illnesses, it will take her a while (at least 10 days to 2 weeks) to get her strength back and feel 100% again so maybe, just for a bit, keep cuddling and stroking. You may well find as she slowly recuperates, she will sleep better and better.
