Teething question

My baby seems to have been on the verge of teething for ages. I can now see the top of a tooth and it feels sharp to touch. This sounds like a stupid question but is it likely to come through quickly now or could it be like this for weeks?

It took ds ages for his teeth to come through once they'd poked through the gum. He's just getting another set and they've been just sitting there for an age, just poking out of the gum. No wonder he's not keen on having his teeth brushed
