Nappies have arrived! Some dumb questions . . . . !

Well, my nappies have arrived - they're huge! So first question, how do I get his clothes on over the top?! Actually, to be fair, it's only the all in ones rainbow coloured ones that are massive, the bumgenius seem to be more slim line.

Also, do I choose whether to use the disposable liners, or do the nappies not work as well without them?

And, I've read somewhere to wash the nappies at 60, but the instructions say not to wash them above 40. Don't really want to do hot washes so take it that it's ok to wash them at 40?

Thanks in advance - you're a lovely lot!

u generally need to buy one clothes size up to go over reusbales unless they r real slim disposable liners are good ones bubs is weaned especially flushable ones 30c or 40c is fine and i use a bit of napisan every few washes hth

Some clothes brands are much better fitting over cloth than others. Jeans are partic likely to not fit well. Dungarees and Onsies (sleepsuits) usually work fine.

Next, Gap (any upmarket or designer make) probably too small around bottom.

Tesco, other supermarket own, Adams, usually fit nicely.

You can get vest extenders to make vests fit.

Personally I wash everything at 30 (Bio or colour bio powder). This is fine for wet nappies, but I prefer to kill things in dirty nappies. So I wash the dirty nappies at either 60 (non bio powder) or at 30 with Napisan (and Bio powder).

I gave up on using liners when baby was still breastfed, they go so infrequently it's not worth the bother. When they start doing at least one dirty nappy a day the liners help contain the mess (although strictly speaking, may not be necessary).

Hi spongebrain I wash all my nappies together - I do a cold rinse first to help shake off any poo, then wash the nappies at 40 degrees. About once a month I wash at 60 degrees (because I read somewhere that it's good for machines to have a hot wash occasionally). No idea about your particular brand though - am sure all the nappy advisers will be along to share their views though. I always use fleece liners rather than disposable to keep DS's bum dry and it protects the nappy from the worst of the poo.

Re: clothes, I've actually found Gap trousers fine so far, and all the supermarket brands are quite good. Frugi sell clothes especially for cloth, but very expensive (they do great sales though). Shorts in the next size up are an option too - then you don't have to roll them up!

I wash everything at 40C including nappies. If the label states 40C I wouldn't exceed that if I were you.

The dept of health recommends you wash nappies at 60C but many people wash at less than that - your baby, your choice really.

You shouldn't have much of a problem getting clothes to fit over his bumgenius nappies. It's easier to find boys trousers to fit over cloth as the tend to be baggier cut. Joggers and dungarees are a good bet. Vest extenders are a good buy too. DS has loads of jeans etc that fit over his Sandy's.

Hi Sponge-

I use Bumgenius and they totally rock! Babypearls is very dainty so they don't seem to make too much difference to the clothes she wears.

I use liners which have come into their own now that she is eating solids....

I was everything at 40C with non-bio and a scoop of Bambino Mio Sanitiser. They come out really well.

60 kills yeast-type things, i think... 40 doesn't.
