and if so, what did you sing?

my 7 week old DS loves being sung to but i find myself struggling a bit for inspiration. at the moment he likes 'kumbaya' and 'michael rowed the boat ashore' which are okay as you can make up endless verses e.g. "someone's grizzling, m'lord, kumbaya". i also sing him a song my mum used to sing to us, don't know what it is or where it came from but he likes it:

i see the moon, the moon sees me
under the shade of the old oak tree
please let the light that shines on me
shine on the one i love

over the ocean, over the sea
that's where my heart is longing to be
please let the light that shines on me
shine on the one i love

DP has had success with 'you'll never get to heaven' and 'bohemian rhapsody'

what were your surprise hits and misses?

FOr some reason, the ABC song used to really calm DS down. I used to sing it all the time! He also liked Bobby Shaftoe (but I sang his name instead of Bobby Shaftoe! .

Used to sing all the nursery rhymes, plus a nappy changing song with the words 'pooey bum' set to the William Tell Overture: "Pooey bum pooey bum pooey bum bum bum..."

When ds was too small to be discriminating, he used to like my very off-key voice, and protest if dh sang in tune. Was about two before he wised up - now I get told to shhhh!

DS is 6 weeks old. I have sung him 'Bring Me Sunshine" since before he was born. This morning it came on the radio, and he really perked up!

DS loved my singing Wuthering Heights to him a few nights ago, just sat in his high chair giggling, especially to the high bits.

I did all the jerky hand movements and weird faces too.

jooly - I did 'good morning' too - with the line 'You've slept the whole night through'
