we use prefolds with ProWraps very very happy with them

also get some little flannels for bum wiping with water saves on cotton wool/wipe expense and you can just bung them in the washer with the nappies

Having used both prefolds and terry (well, bamboo) squares at different times, I would prefer squares.

I used prefolds for about the first year with a laundry service and did get pretty tired of having to frequently wash wraps due to exploding poo. I now wash my own and use mix of shaped and squares. I was pleasantly surprised how good the squares were for containment purposes. Even tho DS is a toddler now, his poo is still pretty loose and extensive...

Washable wipes a great idea too - only just started using them but can't think why I didn't before! They just go in the nappy bucket with everything else.

i prefer sqaures but like prefolds aswell sqaures u can get a better fit the mothercare ones are ok they r only £10 for 6 little ewes are luvly but more bulky whispers i am selling 6 brand new littleewes for £12 posted if u would be intrested i think 60 cm sqaures are the best as u can make them fit a tiddly but use them when they r older aswell

Have you considered trying muslins? If you have one lying around give it a go - they can work well for babies up to the age of 8-10 weeks (if you're lucky). Once they aren't quite absorbant enough you can add a microfibre dishcloth to them as a booster and that will give you an extra few weeks of use of out them.

here is an index to terry folds for you to try out.

Prefolds are thinner fitting than terries. Definitely agree with the prowrap suggestion for prefolds if you go down that route - the rikki is also good but more expensive. I use a bambino Mio set occassionally with DS - have done since birth - the wrap worked fine. If you go for terries then I think something like the mothercare offering would be best - thin fitting and cheap.

Size wise - if you go for prefolds then get the XS (esp since she is long), with terries you will probably need the XS too, depends on how bulky your chosen terry is. XS with muslins too I should think.

All that said I have always wanted to ask you....are you a Formula 1 fan (being F1nut and all)? If so, I could probably sling a whole load of nappies that would fit your DS right now in the post to you tomorrow (FFP). Let me know if you are interested

BigBadMouseInHauntedHouse · 14/10/2008 14:22

Sorry, that should have said get the XS since he is thin not since he is long.

Ah well anything to help a fellow fan .

In this house DH is Ferrari (Filipe Massa), me Mark Webber (wherever he is at the time), DD1 Alonso , DD2 Ferrari (Kimi), DS is 4mo and as yet undecided . We went to silverstone last year and met most of the drivers - was fab. Our guinea pigs are called Filipe and Kimi - I dread the day I have to take them to the vet .

Email me on sillious_soddus at hotmail dot co dot uk with your address and I'll pack it all up and let you know what there is if you like.
