Following on from how often you check your kids at bedtime, how often does your partner check the kids at night?

Mine doesn't.

Even if I don't do it, or on the odd occasion when I'm away for the night, he doesn't feel the need to check them.

Anyone else?

me - virtually every night, hardly ever miss
dh - errrrrrrrrrrrr

hecAteTheirBrains · 07/10/2008 14:20

same as me. When he goes to loo, when he goes to bed, when he needs loo in night, when he hears noise in night!

FAQ · 07/10/2008 14:21

Never........but then I don't have one

When we were togheter I think he used to check them most nights before he went to bed - whereas I never did

Hardly ever, maybe if he hears one of them making a 'funny' noise.
He is of he opinion that he doesn't want to disturb them.
I am of the opinion that he is a lazy bugger.

Anna8888 · 07/10/2008 14:22

We never check on any of the children at night.

Rhubarb · 07/10/2008 14:23

Funny that I'm always first out of bed when they are up in the middle of the night too, even if he hears them first.

I think men just assume everything's fine whereas we mothers always have a light panic mist over us from when we first gave birth.

Neither of us, almost never (except sometimes to verify no reading by torchlight).

PandaG · 07/10/2008 14:24

more than me! - he usually checks them before he goes to bed, I usually don't go up at all between them going to bed and getting up the next day.
In fact, DH often does the putting to bed, and DC get themselves up in the morning, so it can be several days before I go into either of their rooms - they are on 2nd floor and our bedroom is 1st floor.

GooseyLoosey · 07/10/2008 14:24

Never, ever. He doesn't even like looking.

Miyazaki · 07/10/2008 14:24

prob more than me tbh. He is v sentimental... ah.

singyswife · 07/10/2008 14:25

My dh kisses my dd's every night before he goes to bed and tucks them in. I never check on them unless they are needing me for something. Am I a terrible mother??????

Rhubarb · 07/10/2008 14:26

Interesting, I thought it would all be the other way round!

he reads her her bedtime stories and then checks her every time he goes upstairs...we both check her before we go to bed...

he checks more than me..he can't resist seeing her asleep

Bramshott · 07/10/2008 14:36

DH used to, but because I can't go to bed without checking them (and even if he has done, I have to do too, because I enjoy it ) he has sort of stopped. To the extent where I came back from a concert at 1am in the summer to find DH asleep and DD2 in a large pool of vomit.

MaryMungo · 07/10/2008 14:42

DH does all the checking as is a light sleeper and general worrywort. Light sleeping actually a good thing as DS is a sometimes sleepwalker and I sleep like a rock.

annmar · 07/10/2008 14:44

Whoever goes up first checks DD1, turns off her light and sorts her duvet out.

DH tends to go into DD1 in the night if he hears her, mainly because I'm usually stuck in DD2s room trying to get her back to sleep.

sep1712 · 07/10/2008 14:44

My dh usually puts the children to bed, checks before bed and wee wee duty with ds so no wet nights before bed time. I only ever go i if there sick!! 'He doesn't do sick!' I never do or have woke in the night- he does. It was known that during brest feeding the 3 dc that he'd pop them on in the night, stay awake whilst feeding then pop them back into basket, all without any of my knowledge most of the time!!
Don't know if my poor children would survive at night with him as i reaaly don't hear a thing. Would never ever sleep with dc as i wouldn't what i was doing!!
I fire on all cilenders during the day and the kids are all 7.30-7.30 sleepers!!!

scarletlilybug · 07/10/2008 14:50

Dh would nevr dream of "checking" on the children without a specific reason for doing so.
I fact, he gets a bit irritated when I take it upon myself to do so, in case I wake them up.

Rhubarb · 07/10/2008 14:53

Aw, I can't go to bed until I've given each of them a kiss. Kids sleep really well and they are old enough to be able to go straight back to sleep if I wake them anyway. They look their most angelic when asleep and I wouldn't miss that for the world, it's a lovely image just before I turn in myself.

And of course I have fun listening to their ramblings when asleep - in fact you can actually whisper nice things in their ears and I like to think they might then dream about them.

Bloody hell I'm such a fecking slushpuppy!

I check on them just before I go to bed.

My dh never does unless asked to i.e. when I had just had my back operation he went in every night before I fell asleep. He thinks I am being daft but he does it anyway.

We both get up in the night if they are sick (I do cuddling/soothing/getting back to sleep. Dh do most of the running i.e. medicine, fetching of themometer, stripping sick stained bedclothing).

If they decide to wake in the night, they automatically go to the toilet then come in to our bed and lie next to me.

hifi · 07/10/2008 16:31

once or twice, its the only time he can kiss her.

dreamteamgirl · 07/10/2008 22:14

XP no longer lives here, but he puts DS to bed here on Wednesdays and always checks before he goes. When he lived here he always checked before bed, where I sometimes forget to

onepieceoflollipop · 07/10/2008 22:16

He checks them before bed and so do I.

In the night we only check the baby (because she wakes us up)

I admit that he goes to her more than me - I prod him and say "your turn darling" and he gets up. I feel bad in the morning when I realise he has been to her 3 times and I have stayed in bed!

twinsetandpearls · 07/10/2008 22:16

I check on the way to bed, dp checks a few times.

onepieceoflollipop · 07/10/2008 22:17

Rhubarb do they sometimes reply sleepily when you whisper in their ears? My dd1 is quite "tough" when awake but when asleep I ask her how much she loves me and other soppy things and she smiles in her sleep and answers me. It is lovely. [soppy emoticon]
