WooHoo! I got here first!

OP posts:

Rusmum - bamboo squares are quite good. I cut some in half and used pad folded inside a bambino mio wrap for DS - very effective BUT you need to hem them if you cut them up or the fray into nothing. Babeco bamboo squares are good nappyzone has some in stock

I use a whole square pad folded into a pocket nappy at night for DD2 sometimes - works well, bulky but very soft and flexible. Nice and thin when used as a normal terry square - probably takes slightly longer to dry than your prefolds.

Yes I know they're not 100% waterproof. Had been reading some reports of them being good and breathable overnight. Will we just end up soaked then?

sunflower78 · 05/10/2008 22:44

ceolas - used one the other night - not soaked, but bedsheet was a bit damp, and DD is 1mo, with nappy on for about 3-4hrs

sunflower. DD is 13 months and would have it on for about 12 hours! Why do lots of people say they are great then?

Essie3 · 05/10/2008 22:48

Evening all - glad to be missed, hi rusmum. And sorry you're having a bad time.
Also, I doff my hat at all you with several - I'm struggling with one!

What else now...
rusmum great frugality with the fleece liners. The MB I'm selling don't need a fleece liner because they have one built in. Quite odd IMO because you can't use them without it - but then it does take moisture away so I suppose there won't be a situation where you want your baby to be a bit more damp?
A top tip as well: if you use pinking shears, you don't need to hem. And I got my pinking shears free: go to a charity shop and ask if they have any. They're not allowed to sell scissors and sharp objects and can only give them away! You can then make a donation if you so wish!

Bags I use the bag which came with the pop-ins, and it's worked fine except this morning: question: DS had a wet nappy which stank to high heaven this morning. Never had one like it before. Any idea why his wee would be so pongy? It's calmed down now.
Anyway, normally no stinks. But what does 'wet bag' mean? Is it a bag for wet nappies, or do you wet pail but in a bag??

Ceolas as you know I exclusively use the pop-ins. Really, really good and a discount on at the mo as well. Rusmum you'd have to break into my house if you wanted a pop-in! They're not so cheap secondhand - in fact, I haven't found any which are really cheap secondhand or anywhere, probably because they're new. But if you want to buy a value set, babipur do them (also on e-bay): 5 for £60 with 1 night booster. They're £15 each normally.

Essie3 · 05/10/2008 22:51

Wow it's BUSY on here!

ilovemydog · 05/10/2008 22:51

Anyone have any advice re: boys and heavy wetting? Without being crude, DS 'dresses' to the left, although I try and put it south as DP insists it's more comfortable

Lollipop bamboo with bamboo booster seems to be fairly night proof, but unlike DD, his wetness seems to be targetted....

Would it be cruel/strategic to put the booster in a specific place?

Ceolas · 05/10/2008 22:54

Seems wise ilmd. Most nappy manufacturers suggest folding boosters differently for boys/girls. Unless you feel it would be uncomfortable for him I would definitely go for strategic boosting!

Hi Essie

ilovemydog · 05/10/2008 22:54

I've always done wet pail - net thing in a bucket with tea tree oil and water. Some prefer an antibacterial. Dry pail means no water. Just
diapers.

Ceolas · 05/10/2008 22:56

Wet bag I was just meaning to be a bag for wet nappies. We dry pail in this house. Gets a bit whiffy towards washing time though sometimes.

sunflower78 · 05/10/2008 22:56

ceolas - asked myself the same question - tried it with DS when he was 18mo, with a boosted cotton tot bots and felt terrible when found him soaked in the middle of the night, but then he was a heavy wetter, so thought I'd try it again on DD.. another thing to sell ..

essie - guess the pop-ins are still going well then. keeping an eye on the babypur offer and another one too which refunds the trial pack if you buy the big pack... sold one item on e-bay yesterday, so that's 2 pop-ins (that's how we count money here now, in nappies!)

babyjjbaby · 05/10/2008 23:27

ceolos don't understand them prefolds lol

rusmum i'll get u the link to the ones i am selling i use prefolds a fai bit mainly terry sqaures but a mixture i don't need any really but once u r addicted to nappies u'll understand why i want alot lol

sunflower how much would u be looking for the fluffles would love them but didn't real;ise how expensive they r and didn't know urs was new

babyjjbaby · 05/10/2008 23:30

rusmum here

sunflower78 · 06/10/2008 09:40

baby - trying to get as close to what I paid as I can or DP won't be happy with nappy fund... I think I paid just under £40 for the pack, I thought they would have been perfect for us with hard water and quick drying... they are fab soft and come out of the machine nearly dry, so if they fit baby they would be great... the poppered sz2 bamboozle fits DD perfectly though (obviously with front turned down and nippa as not enough poppers - why don't they do nippa bamboozles?)

I've got some prefolds - cotton bottoms, but think medium size if you're interested in the future (at least the wraps are size M so I assume the nappies are as well...). They're used but still looking good as not used very much - doubt each nappy has been washed more than 3-4 times.

Chellsmum · 06/10/2008 10:40

Hi all i'm more of a lurker have only posted a few times but want to say thanks to whoever it was that recommended the cheeky cherub balm (think it was somewhere on last thread). I used it for my dd's dry scalp and by next day it was all gone. Thanks again x

lollipopmother · 06/10/2008 14:48

Sunflower - How much does your Maia weigh now? I demanded my HV weight Elizabeth today because she's been stopping most feeds early to cry and I'm shocked to find she's actually put on 8oz in a week! She's now 8lb 12oz, still has very skinny-mini legs though. I've just bought some XS Sandy's and now I don't know if they're going to fit her!!

sunflower78 · 06/10/2008 15:19

Babyjj - will weight the lot and let you know later - milkvampire attached atm...

lollipop - last tuesday she was 3.7kg, so nearly 1kg since birth, which is about 2lb (sorry, can't work in imperial...) and the xs sandy's are probably going on usd nappies next week - they just fit, but now that wees are bigger they get soaked quickly. I've used the small bamboo yesterday - still slightly loose, though she's starting to have folds on her thighs. getting rid of the fluffles though as we just can't get a good fit... we're starting a nappy fund and probably will go for some pop-ins (which fit perfectly and are gran & dp friendly) and some other pockets, which I guess would be easier to use when out and about. meanwhile getting on with muslins/5 x xs sandys/1 pop-in/1 sz 2 bamboozle and disp (which I need to go and buy as only 3 left and rest are washing...). will get some terry squares to keep me going. so, what's Elizabeth now? colics here have no pattern anymore - miss keeps on being lazy and "sucking" nipple in, so a lot of air too...

sunflower78 · 06/10/2008 15:22

lollipop - sorry, just seen you post again with Elizabeth's weight....

Essie3 · 06/10/2008 15:23

Chellsmum hi there - it was me with the cheeky cherub [proud and pleased emoticon!]. If you have time, get in touch with the company to let them know. (I say 'company', it's actually three girls in my home town!) I swear by it, and use it for nappy rash, any soreness, cradle cap (but that's like the forth bridge here - fresh waves on a regular basis!) my lips as a lipbalm, spots (mine), cuts, when I burnt my finger...etc... I should get a discount for marketing!

Ah, ok, Ceolas, I wondered how you would get a bag to hold water! We dry pail, but with a bucket for the dirties because he's still exclusively (explosively...) bfed. The paper liner makes no difference IMO, and I don't want my nappies to be stained!
Do you put anything nice in the bucket/bag? Tea tree oil? Lavender? And if yes, straight in or on a cloth or something?

Sunflower pop-ins going well. (Also exclusive!) But, this morning we had a damp nappy, and we figured out that it must have been one of the new ones. I washed them twice, but I think it takes a few more washes than that. The booster (which looks like a sanitary towel - sorry!) can be folded into a little pad apparently for a boy. So lay it out horizontally, then fold the right side in, left side to meet it, and you have a triple layer, which you can place on his small-but-powerful willy. Hope that helps?
