How long is too long without pooing?

I have a 4 month old little boy who seems to be pooing less and less frequently! Although he doesn?t appear to be in any discomfort, this time he has reached 5 days without!
Should I worry about it?

Thanks all!

if you get to day 7 take to GP, we got to day 10 once
Loads of fruit, prunes, pure orange juice ect.
Also not too many banana's as these can sometimes cause it to be worse.

Is he bf?

LittleDorrit · 28/09/2008 22:04

If he is only 4 months, don't give prune juice or anything like that !!!
If he is BF then going once a week is quite normal, and does not cause them any discomfort.
If having formula, then a bit different.

Sorry - forgot to mention the main thing: He's entirely breastfed!

In that case up to 14 days seems normal from the babies that I have known over the last few years.
DS1 used to go massively about once a week, ds2 a little smudge about once an hour!
Anything is normal in bf baby, there is so little waste in it that usually almost all of it is put to use nourishing the baby and very little left to poo out.

It's fine, if he's in no discomfort and the poos are soft when they come, then you've nothing to worry about. My DS was exclusively BF until 6 months, and used to go 14 days between poos sometimes!
