Has anyone ever sucked snot out of their child's nose?

I don't mean with a little sucky dealibob from the chemist, I mean with your mouth.

I know some people do.

I am feeling so sorry for ds at the moment, he is so snotty and struggling to feed. I was tempted to try it last night but didn't as I didn't know if it could be dangerous (visions of accidentally sucking my baby's lungs up through his nose, or depriving him of oxygen or something).

I have a fantastic little contraption to suck snot and works really well. DD2 (3yrs) loves it as she has still not mastered nose blowing and knows it makes her feel better.DD3 (14 mths fights it away still but it definately makes a difference to her sleep if she is unblocked). Seen an electric gadget type one in shops too and was curious enough to read packaging!
But can not picture how I would do without contraption..can anyone enlighten me?

Hahaha! I was only discussing this with a co-worker earlier today! How funny the topic is on here. My 16 month old is so bunged up and I was asking for advice on what to do and she sugegsted the whole sucking snot thing... Needless to say my DD is still in bed snoring away as she's still bunged up!

Poledra · 24/09/2008 22:46

Yep, have done it for both dd1 and 2. Preferable to watching my baby struggle to breathe. Never thought it would cause any problem, and was desperate for sleep.

BroccoliSpears · 24/09/2008 22:47

I did once help dd out with that exact problem hmc. No sucking involved though.

Fab link Boysie!

I love squiffy's admission

I think there is a line, you pick and fiddle and all is well, you try to eat snot and suddenly no stoppit.

lol, bringing back so much memories ! i had to "suck snot" 17 yrs ago when my eldest daughter then 3 or 4 mths, was terribly bunged up and couldnt breathe (wasnt aware of a sucker contraption back then) i have a 4 week old now and me and dh were discussing this as he has caught the snuffles as my 15 yr old has a cold, my DH said no way would he do it, me , if i had to i would, the blue contraption thing looks a bit scary to me , very long and pointy,
