DS1 went to reception today. Blubbled like a fountain all morning. Picked him up, took him to the cake shop as a treat and he has been a right royal pain ever since - can't wait 'til tomorrow now

I've got ds2 starting preschool on Thursday, so I'd better go and get some kleenex for then too!

yes, I agree - the worst thing was I had to walk home with a new neighbour who was really carefree about the whole thing, I didn't know her well enough to say 'OI!!!! I just want to drip for 10 mins'

My DS starts reception tommorow and I've been sobbing since he went to bed. I feel heartbroken and my dh says that I'm being stupid, which doesn't help.

I have just dropped dd1 (3 in about two weeks time) off for her second day at what they call here pre-nursery, basically pre-school. Both days she has cried and screamed and clung to me and I have walked away crying. I feel like the worst, meanest most horrible mother in the world. We have just moved to a new country, 7 weeks ago I took my little girl away from everything and everyone she knew and loved, including her lovely child-minder, and have brought her into a completely new and alien environment. I literally can't bear it but I know in the long run it will be good for her. When I picked her up on Monday she seemed ok, but she was so distraught this morning.

It doesn't help that I also have an 8-month old who is teething for England and also very unhappy and up half the night.

Please can someone tell me when this parenting lark gets a little easier

MLTN, I'm sorry to say that they are often PITA's at home for a bit after they start, a sort of letting off steam.

I have DS starting reception tomorrow and DD starting middle school (she has dyspraxia) so my stress levels are high, not helped by DD coming in at midnight saying she didn't feel well. Any tears from me will be sheer relief.

I am going armed with tissues for DS's friend's Mum who has been wobbly about them starting all along and when asked if OK earlier gave the most unconvincing 'I'm alright' that I have ever heard.

claraquitetirednow - that could have been me writing! snap in many ways, recently moved to a new country, DS (3.5) just started pre-school and yelled both days, 8 month old also teething..!
Heart breaks for DS in some ways, but he's gradually settling down and I think school will actually help in the long/medium term by giving him a social life and routine/getting him out of the house/giving me time to recoup and sleep. yes it has to get easier!!

DD went to preschool for first time today . Been clockwatching ever since. DH is at home to look after the babe so theoretically I could have gone for a coffee at nice caff down the road but came home to blub in private. I am a saddo! No doubt I will change my mind when DD returns home and acts up having been an angel at preschool

My DD starts tomorrow. I'm dreading it. I just hope I don't embarrass her at the school gates by rugby tackling herand wailing, "My baby! My baby!"

On the plus side, just think of all the free child-care... Yipppppeeeeeee

It doesn't get any easier their second year either. Dropped DD off at first day of Year 1 today. She was upset in the playground and cried, which was heartbreaking. I held it together whilst I waved her off with a jolly cheer and then I lost it

we had to go in today for a 30 minute chat with the teacher.
She was lovely and a teaching assistant took ds off to look round the classroom while we filled in forms.
Wr're back on Friday for 2 hours, and all of next week from 9am - 11am
tbh I feel much better now that I know where the classroom is and where I'm supposed to go every morning

I thought DS would be fine and we were really upbeat about it all but they had to peel him off me . Now I'm just dying to go and get him.

I've just got home after collecting dd from her first day. I didn't cry, much to my surprise tbh. I honestly thought I wouldn't be able to hold it together, but I did. A bit different to her last day at nursery, I sobbed when I picked her up for the last time

She was absolutely fine. There were a few children from her nursery in Reception (4 classes) and one of her little mates is in her class so they palled up this morning and stuck together the whole time they were there by the sounds of things

There was one little girl who was inconsolable and another little boy who can't speak a word of English - he looked really lost, sad and confused and I felt so sorry for him. I think other parents have had a harder time of it today than I have tbh.

Just back from dropping DD1 for her first day.... i havent cried, but I have a huge lump in my throat and it feels VERY quiet here, DD2 is chilling out, and DS is asleep.

I need some NOISE!!!

well, today was much worse than Tuesday - I had to drop off all three at 3 different buildings all at the same time in theory, except the nursery was open late which made ds2 late for his very first day, and in the middle of it all dd fell over a concrete step and cut her face to ribbons, so I was trying to clean her up, say goodbye to ds2 and settle him in while ds1 was jumping up and down like a cat on hot bricks because he was late. Bloody awful.

Damadilemna - that is a coincidence! How are you getting on? dd1 went for her third morning today and it is just getting worse. She cried before she even left the house, cried all the way there (I had to carry her - the nursery is only a 5 minute walk from the house) and was unconsolable when I left. They told me she's ok when I am not there but I'm not convinced. I know she probably isn't screaming as they would call me to get her but I don't think she is happy.

Blah.

hi claraqtn - feel like we are slowly getting there. the move has been much harder than we thought with the kids esp DS. He was a bit better going to school yesterday, only howled when DH left as opposed to all the way there. As you say the howling probably finishes as soon as you leave but the worry is that they are miserable all morning. To be honest though DS went to a great nursery in London for over 2 years and still sometimes cried when I left him but it really didn't mean that he wasn't happy there in the day. If its the first nursery/preschool experience for your DD it is bound to be harder at first. and I keep telling myself it has to be good in long term for helping him to settle and make friends. The thing is that everything is harder when you're not getting enough sleep isn't it. We just finally made some progress with DDs sleep and that has made things seem easier. anyway could go on for ages... (sorry OP for hijacking!!)

Yes sorry for hijacking too - DamaDilemna, we also have made progress with dd2's sleep, she had four teeth through at once so we had a few weeks of very interupted nights but she is a lot better now and more or less sleeping through.
dd1 did go to a childminder in the UK but she first went when she was 18 months so can't remember what it is like to go somewhere new without me. And her childminder was so lovely, she settled there reasonable quickly.
The move here has been a lot harder than I had anticipated too. Dd1 has regressed a lot in terms of tantrums etc - it is quite similar to when dd2 was born, but worse as now she sees dd2 as a serious rival and has started pushing her etc whereas when she (dd2) was a newborn, she (dd1) was lovely with her, really gentle.
