Hello everyone! I am pregnant with number 1 and we are hoping to find a live in Flemish speaking nanny to live with us in London. I know this is a long shot, but if anyone has any ideas where we might find one they would be gratefully received.

Thank you very much

Scared x

You'd probably have better luck looking for a Dutch speaker.

I think your best bet would be to advertise in a Flemish newspaper

Hi ladies. Flemish and Dutch are basically the same, but the accent is quite different and we go to Belgium a lot so thought would be nice for the nanny to get home! I thought it was a long shot on here, but thank you for taking the time

You could try advertising on www.xpats.com We're in Belgium and found our babysitter through here. Plus somebody might know somebody etc....

Hello ScaredOfEverything, I am also trying to find a Flemish/Dutch-speaking (live-out) nanny. Have you had any success thus far? If so, would you have any tips other than those already mentioned in this thread? Thanks!

ScaredOfEverything · 27/09/2008 22:13

hi there, I must admit I havent started trying very hard yet! We go back and forward to Belgium a lot so I thought I might advertise locally. I also found one website at nanny.nl. A lot of these nannies dont seem to be Dutch / Flemish natives though unfortunately. Ill come back if I think of a new scheme.

Do you live in London?

Hello,
Are you still looking for a Flemish live-out nanny? I'm a native Flemish speaker, 23 years old, live in East London and would love to work as a live-out nanny for a Flemish/Dutch family. Unfortunately I haven't got any nanny-experience yet but back in Belgium I used to babysit often. The kids were between 3 and 12 years old.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me: [email protected]

Hi, I'm flemish and mum of nearly 3. We always end up having a Dutch au pair as Flemish ones are a bit thin on the ground, but I've found the children don't find that a problem. They get the Dutch accent from the au pairs, the Flemish one from me and my parents when they visit and TBH most children's DVD's are in Dutch rather than Flemish anyway. In a way it's good for them to learn that there are lots of different accents in Dutch/Flemish, just like there are lots in English. That's how I look at it anyway.
Lots of success in your search for a good nanny!

Thanks Belgian chocs. We go back to the Belgian coast a lot so thought would be nice to get one from close or Bruges so that they could get a lift home! THanks for the good wishes...
