Best nappy rash cream for DS with eczema?

Well self explanitory really. DS has rash and I find that chemically creams like sudocream don't work that well and dry his skin out more. Does anyone know of a cheapish cream that is more natural?

we use the Simple one. has always worked much better than the posh expensive ones.

Or you could go for metanium which is an ointment and not as drying.

Metanium is fabulous for nappy rash and I used it with DS1 who had awful eczema when he was little. Most of the "natural" creams are quite pricey and, in my experience, are not always the best at relieving nappy rash (and I speak as an aromatherapist so am very into natural remedies!).

I used to use Zinc and Castor oil cream on my baby's eczema, not just on his bum. It worked well, it was very soothing.

I stopped when I found out it had bloody peanut oil in it, BUT it doesn't any more (but check, they call it arachis oil).

Thanks for all your replies HV told me to buy Boots Zinc & Castor oil (which has arachis hypogeae in it am assuming this is the peanut butter) How odd is that! But she told me to buy DS some cheap pants and let him roam around with just them on, he's 2 and soo not ready for training but he won't pee everywhere LOL.

Might not be what you're looking for but E45 do a nappy cream now. Its FAB and I think the tube I got is going to last til ds2 is out of nappies altogether! He has mild excema and v sensitive bum skin btw.

Unfortunately its probably a case trial and error to find one that suits his skin.

Can I recommend "Bottom Butter" - it's cocoa butter and I'm afraid I haven't used it for nappy rash (as I don't have a baby!) but I suffered from excema brought on by sweat (lovely) for years and this is the only thing to have totally cleared it up.

Smells nice too and you don't need much at all.

Depends how bad the nappy rash is. If its not too bad, zinc and castor oil cream seems to do the job on DD (who also has fairly chronic excema) but as the lovely ladies on MN have taught me, a bad case seems to react best to metanium with a layer of bepanthen smeared on top. I have to say, when DD has nappy rash, my first thought is get rid of it and don't worry too much about the excema and deal with the excema after the nappy rash is gone. I guess that depends on how bad the excema is though.

PS - very proud at finally having some advice/tips to share on MN rather than being the one constantly asking questions - a milestone in me being a mum!!!
