What do you do with your DCs while you have a shower?

Assuming you have no one to watch them!

Mine are DD 3.5 and DS 1.5.

I'd leave her downstairs watching TV perhaps or in my room watching or playing in her own room. Not sure with DS though.

What do you do?

Have one when they are in bed

I leave them playing in the living room, if it's just DS3 (14 months) I try and time my showers for his nap time -otherwise I just leave the doors open so I can hear him and jump in.

Always put mine in woith me. They liked it.

Mine are 2.10 and 5 months.
I wait till DS2 has a nap then I park DS1 in front of cbeebies while I get ready.

If DS2 is not wanting to sleep or if we need to be up and out at a certain time and I cant wait for nap time, then I run a bath and have DS2 in boucy chair on bathroom floor and chat to him while I am in thebath.

I shower when DH is around , unfortunately this is before 7 in the morning

Only have ds 15 months - I put him in with me, he plays down the other end with his bath toys - if I leave him pottering around upstairs he goes mad as he loves the bath/shower... wonder how long that will last

put dd in cot to play

Dd1(4) plays upstairs and in the bathroom and dd2(2) plays downstairs, our sitting room is kiddy proof with stair gate on the door.

DS1 is 3.7 and would not leave him downstairs - have when absolutely necessary, put him in his bedroom with his baby gate shut, but generally (easier) he just comes in the shower / bath with me - he playes with his toys when i get out and dry myself - and now i do the same with him, but wait until my baby 12wks goes to sleep - or when tea is cooking when DH comes home - peace! or when the DC are sleeping before i go to bed.

Wow, how do you do other stuff without leaving him alone sometimes Redhead?
What if you need to cook dinner and he is playing upstairs or if you need a poo and he is downstairs?
Just out of interest, why do you not leave him downstairs at all - is it for his safety or because he would mess around?

I would usually take a shower when DD2 (21 months) is having a sleep, DD1 usually just watches the TV or does some colouring or something while I jump in.

try to get up before they do, otherwise sometimes 3yo watches telly while 1yo stays in the bathroom with me, sometimes they come and talk to me while I have a bath (v sweet, little faces peeping over the rim of the bath!)

Doors open sounds good although DS will probably get in fully clothed he wouldn't come in if I wanted him to though! Typical.

DD isn't really a problem I know I can trust her to play nicely.

Pre DD3 I used to put a DVD on in our bedroom for them and they would sit on our bed and watch it, luckily the shower is in the ensuite so if I left the door open I could see them too. They loved it like it was a treat and ask me if I am having a shower today?

Now I can't do it as I can't trust them with DD3, I wait until DP comes in at night has his dinner then I go upstairs and hide shower

DD (14 months) comes in with me now she's dropped her morning nap.
It;s great as I can get her all clean after she has smeared half her breakfast over her face and arms.

My daughter, who is now 3.8, has always wandered in and out of the bathroom while I'm in the bath (before she was mobile she sat in her bouncy chair looking at me). She's fine - but I have always lived in a child proof flat.

Ds is very well trained, plays in his cot for a good half hour so I can wash hair, dry hair etc .

DS goes in the shower or bath with me - always has done, right from newborn. Kills two birds with one stone.

Indith wish DS could learn the same trick as yours!!

Poppy I know I'm blessed, chances of the bump learning the same trick slim to none I think though!

I shower in ensuite, DD (now 17 months) gets shut in our bedroom with a big pile of toys and with the door to the ensuite open so I can peer out and watch her. TBH she spends most of her time knocking on the shower cubicle and playing peepo.

She has come in with me on occasion, but it is not a relaxing shower then IYKWIM

I have a bath at night when DS (nearly 9 months) is asleep for the night.
I get washed & dressed in the morning before DS is up. He's quite happy to chatter to himself & play in his cot for a while before getting up for breakfast - thank God.
When I need to go to the toilet during the day, I put him in his playpen in the dining room. We live in a flat, and if I leave the bathroom door open I can chatter to him.

A lot of people think playpens are evil, but I think they're really handy. DS is only ever put in it for short periods of time. It means I can go to the toilet, wash the dishes etc without worrying he's going to come to harm.

In their bedroom with gate on door. Start off when small babies in playpen/travel cot in bedroom so they get used to it. Sorry, not much help for you now unless you have a very easy going ds, but you could do it with your next one! Did this with all 3 of mine. dd1 even used to go in her room when I had a shower when she was quite able to be downstairs on her own - she's always been a bit of a routine freak.

DS (2.6) has to be upstairs - with stairgate stopping him from going back down - when I'm in the shower. I wouldn't hear him if anything happened otherwise as we also have a noisy extractor fan in the bathroom. I'm fine with him being in one of the bedrooms playing though.
