Ds2 hates his cot with a passion. I was thinking for his first birthday I could get him a toddler bed or a car bed.
He will be walking by then and is already climbing do you think he will be too young?

We had DS in a bed just after his first birthday - we put a travel bed guard on to stop him falling out!

My daughter was in a bed at 15 months with a bed guard. She kept trying to climb over the cot and a bed was a lot less risky.

interesting. we're about to try and move from co-sleeping. can imagine dd preferring a bed but always assumed she's too young. (She's 13 months.) are they in their own rooms? What happens if they wake at night?

We bought a toddler car bed (think it was little tykes) and DS went in it from 12 months as he could almost climb out of his cot. It was very low to the ground so didnt need a guard and he never fell out.

I moved my DD into a toddler bed at 11 months, she was already walking confidently at that point. She was an awful sleeper in her cot and she hated it and the bed really made a difference for us. She also had a pillow and duvet from then too but honestly it made the world of difference. She didn't have a bed guard, she had a cheap foam mattress on the floor incase she fell out which she only did once or twice. She was in her own room and has a stair gate at the door for if she gets up and wanders - she is 2.1 now and is prone to sleepwalking so its still there to prevent her falling down the stairs , I don't use it to lock her in or anything. At first I don't think she realised she could get out of the bed and wander round, I'm not sure why! She learned soon after 1st birthday and then she was already used to the bed and we used the rapid return method, which worked after a couple of nights. I say go for it!

dd and ds both went into beds at 18 months but they never had a cot. We used the bed side guards for ages!

My DD went into her bed just after her first birthday. We had a trundle bed in case she fell out. It took her a while to work out she could get out of bed, but she never wanders in the middle of the night - if she wakes, she just comes in and joins us. So no problems.

I put my ds1 in a low bed from IKEA at 15 mths. I dont remember him ever getting out and wandering. Found it fine. No guard or anything just stair gate on landing.

The toddler bed I bought said from 15 months. DS hated cot and toddler bed. At 2.4 he is still in our bed!
