Bike question....

Not sure if this is the best place to post but am looking for advice on how to carry 2 children on a bike!! My ds's are 21mo and 4mo and i would really like a seat that would carry them both. I have seen someone cycling with a double seat on the back (not a trailer, just like a really wide child seat) and wondered if anyone knows where I could get something similar? I don't want a trailer if possible. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks.

(BTW, I know ds2 is too small at the moment, but for future reference!!)

You could put a seat on the back and one of those cross bar seats (kind of in front of you on the cross bar with the child holding the centre of the handlebars) in front of you. I'm not sure I'd enjoy cycling like this, but I'm a wuss on the bike.

Have seen this done (what scotsgirl suggests). Put out a call for Dutch or Netherlands-based Mumsnetters - they'll be experts on this.

How strong are your legs?!

What scotsgirl said. I have dd on my crossbar and have done since she was 6 months, if I had another I'd put dd on the back and newbie on the crossbar.

Think this might be the way to do it (1 on back and 1 in front), not sure how easy it will be though, have not been on a bike in a looong time!!

Was pondering this too...in the end i have gone for the trailer option (£90 from halfords), feel it is the best option.

Discusssed it with someone in the bike shop and they said disadvantage of 1 front 1 back bike seats is that it can be a bit tricky for you to get on/off yourself. Plus the front bikeseats not so good as your little one gets bigger.

My two (2.5 and 10 months) love the trailer and it is pretty easy to cycle with. I have one bike seat on back and it is almost easier as you have room to put bags and stuff int he back too. Even with just back bike seat I am limited with carrying anything else and this would be worse with a front mounted one too.

Someone posted on here recently about a Dutch (I think) bike with a big sort of basket thing which two kids can go in??? Someone else more informed might come along soon. I will try and look for the thread.
