Hello everyone, newbies and oldies

Well my 2 wake up in the evening, middle of the night and dd2 always wakes up between 5 and 6am every morning (she is 14 months old, and has always woken at this time). They just seem to be truly appalling sleepers. Dd1 was fantastic (7-7) until dd2 came along (and we moved house, thereby unsettling her even more). Dd1 sleeps for about half an hour - hour in the day and dd2 for an hour.I don't think either of them wake from hunger, dd2 just loves a cuddle, and dd1 wakes screaming 2 or 3 times a night (not sure if this is nightmares or night terrors), or her night cough (asthma) keeps her awake.I'm very lucky because dh shares all the night wakings so between us we manage to get some sleep! (The rest I make up for by drinking far too much/too strong coffee).

Kaybee, I have a couple of pieces of blackout material going spare, I could stick them in the post if they would be of any help? (we velcro'd them to the window edge.)

I definately have worse pmt since having babies, and bad post menstrual headaches too - sympathies for your migraine Jewels, and fingers crossed for the arrival of Auntie Flo....

Cazwa · 01/08/2008 22:38

Joining the club of poor sleepers, I knew my 12 hour dual sleepers wouldnt last long...

DS (9mo) has spontaneously given up his dummy, how strange. He started spitting it out last week one day when he was ill and has never touched it since. This is great, but quite annoying as he is now really unsettled at night and keeps waking up at 4am and wont go back over.

Am gearing up to potty-train DD who turns 2 next week. Anyone done it and got any tips? Have been waiting for her to do a wee on the potty herself with nappy-off time in the evenings, but she never does a wee before bedtime so she doenst get the chance to practice!

PMT vibes your way Jewels

simpson · 01/08/2008 23:09

Hi all

Just a quick message as not much going on here.

Caswa - I am toilet training ATM although my DS is 2.11 as he refused to do it earlier. We have cut out potty and gone straight to the loo. He is doing well (its been just over a week) and has cracked wees but poos are altogether different kettle of fish. Smarties work very well

Sending Jewels big fat PMT vibes!!!

Waves at everyone else...

Evening all - hope I'm the last one up.

Feeling especially fortunate today (whatever other shit has happened): DS fell (well, wriggled feet first) off the changing table... ...and I caught him mid-air My rather mundane day could have been so different (in a bad way) - even he seemed a little relieved.

Cazwa -- still haven't gone for potty training with DD but we're going to when we come back from holiday (didn't seem much point before). But she regularly uses the potty to wee in and we offer it to her; and she also has a fine collection of 'big-girl's' underwear which she's never worn but I'm trying to get her interested in.

Hazeyjane -- your LOs make any sleep problems my two have pale into insignificance. I don't know how you cope with it. (I can put up with all sorts in the day, but I need some time to sleep...)

Talking of which... night ladies

Chaotica · 02/08/2008 00:48

Jewels -- for some daft reason I just didn't have you down as a UNIX and C sort-of lady (just shows how deceptive appearances can be )

simpson · 02/08/2008 15:48

Hi all

Having a very lazy day today. DH took the Dcs to the park this morning. He has now gone to work and DS has been watching TV all afternoon Just don't have the energy to do anything today am still in PJs

Hope everyone is good.

Chaotica - well done on catching DS!!

Chaotica · 02/08/2008 18:30

I am still breathing a big sigh of relief a day later -- so pleased I was only a pace away from him [phew!]

Kaybeeand2boys · 02/08/2008 21:53

Chaotica, that must have been so scary.

Hazey - the blackout fabric would be fantastic if you're sure you don't need it? Can I give you any money for it ad/or pay for the p&p?

It's nice to know that others have sleeping problems with their toddlers/babies - i guess misery loves company . Last night he woke at 3am and we gave him a bottle and he (eventually) slept till 7am which was much better. Though we prob had the same amount of sleep it just felt better to be starting the day at a more normal hour!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend despite the slightly miserable weather

Jewelsandgems · 03/08/2008 19:47

Hello ladies! Sorry have not posted for ages and have no idea where the time has gone!

No worries chaotica - I get lots of questionable glances when I explain my proffession (and also, I have an interest in trains - no I am not joking!)

Anyway....

The good news is kaybee that the nights and mornings will start getting darker and then your DS will start waking a little later anyway - the blackout fabric though I am sure will be a great help in the meantime, and hopefully give you some lay-ins

Oh and some news! M neice gave birth to a beautiful baby boy yesterday - 2 weeks early! But is was 8lb 8! I mean, how big would he have been had she gone full term?!! [ouch emoticon] Anyway, she was meant to have a home birth but the health authority messed up and there was no midwife available for her - she had to get am ambulance to hospital and gave birth just an hour later. Aaah shame about the homebirth thing but mummy and baby well, so that's the main thing.

Bought some baby bits for the new baby today (A cool spotty grobag and a little no donkey crinky toy - got one for Izzy too and that kept her entertained lots!)

Izzy is doing really well with the solids, gave her mash potato and brocilli today and she loved it! Mind you, so far she will eat anything so we have to be careful with our food because of the salt etc.

Am eating white magnum and watching crap on TV - bliss.....

Nighty-night

jollyjolly · 03/08/2008 21:06

Hi ladies can i please join you? You are all making me feel less like a nutter.
I have 2 ds's DS1 - 2yrs DS2 - 10 months this week. Its tough, very tiring, but the only thing that affects me majorly is lack of sleep. DS1 sleeps 8-7ish, but DS2 has started waking at 4am for a while. I know its nothing compared to so many of you, but its enough for me if it happens too many nights in a row. This week i've had a night of DS1 being sick so up and down lots, and DS2 waking us all up and then screaming in pain from wind for 2 hours, not bringin any up!

I've also found out this week that I'm pregnant with no3. Very exciting and planned, but also scary too. Think i need to rearrange my lifestyle for a while, take it easy. I try and take the boys out most days and its just throwing all of our routines out. so as of tomorrow i'm staying in more and accepting all help, because i feel naff right now.
Very early days in the pregnancy, had 2 previous miscarriages so i know i need to slow down and let this baby do some growing.

I'm looking forward to getting lots of tips from you all.

simpson · 03/08/2008 21:42

Hi JollyJolly welcome And congrats on DC3

My Ds is 2 nearly 3 and DD is 6mths and I would like another LO. Ideally with a gap of 18mths between DD and DC3. My main worry is how to cope being heavily pg with a young toddler who may want being carried everywhere. I am also watching this thread for tips

TattooedGrrrl · 04/08/2008 08:15

welcome jollyjolly! congrats on baby 3!

I've gone right off 2 foods i usually love lately, so DH joked 'you're not pregnant are you?'...it's very, very unlikely, and we've said no more kids (DH on list for the snip) but i have to admit i thought 'what if i was?'...and i thought perhaps it would be a daughter. For about 2 minutes i felt a bit sad But on a practical level we can't have any more, so i just have to put it to one side and forget about it i suppose.

DS2 has 4 teeth breaking the surface at once, so he's not best pleased, and DS1 has worked out how to get out of his cot when he wakes in the morning, so we've fitted a gate to his door. He's also waking at night crying or screaming- i don't know if he's having nightmares, or if he's anxious at being at CMs 3 times a week? He seems otherwise himself, and happy and playful

DS2 is starting to like more foods too- reduced salt/sugar beans and my bolonaise are being tolerated (about 3 spoons) which is better than mostly just greek yogurt.

butwhybutwhy · 04/08/2008 08:29

I think I might join you lot.
You all seem like raving looneys due to small children

I have a dd who will be 5 in October then ds1 who is 2 in 3 weeks and ds2 who is nearly 8 months.

DS1 is going through an unbeliveable phase atm and I just cnanot take my eyes off him.
DS2 is still waking in the night too so I am perpetually knackered.

hazeyjane · 04/08/2008 08:46

Morning all, hope everyone ok

Up all night with dd1 whose asthma cough is back for some reason.

Kaybee, how big is the window in your lo's room? as I have a couple of pieces, don't worry about paying, it is a really scruffy piece of material (but should be ok hidden behind proper curtains), and shouldn't cost much to send.

I'm feeling bad about putting potty training off for so long (dd1 is 2.5 months), but whenever she sees the potty she just puts it on her head, and runs around the room bashing her head against things (she may not have inherited my superior intellect), and i think, oh maybe i'll give it another month.

Hello Butwhy, and Jollyjolly - and big congratulations on dc3.

simpson · 04/08/2008 10:40

HazeyJane - I only started toilet training my DS two weeks ago this wed He just did not seem ready though. I tried him at 2.7 and gave up after 3 days. We have cracked the wees although how I wean him off wanting a smartie everytime is beyond me but the poos are a differnet matter. Its starting to get me down TBH

Today DD has done 2 poos and DS one in his pants and all this before 9.30

Butwhybutwhy - welcome. Great name Thats all I hear in this house!!

Chaotica · 04/08/2008 20:32

Hmm - potty training...

I'm delaying it until we get back from holiday (we're off for two weeks tomorrow night), or at least that's my excuse at the moment.

TattooedGrrrl · 04/08/2008 21:08

DS1 has peed in the potty twice this week- after starting on the floor then being quickly guided over the potty. He also insists on standing to wee. Got a poo in there last week. If he asks / tells us what he's going to do, we get him on the potty, but if he doesn't say we just change his pull ups- he's only 2yrs and a month, so no rush.

Kaybeeand2boys · 04/08/2008 22:10

hazey, i'll have to have a measure of the window tomorrow, thanks so much.

Got caught out in the rain today, it was lovely and headed out to the park with a friend, and our boys were on the bouncy castle when the heavens opened! I had warmer stuff for the boys but not for me! Nor did I have the raincover, very foolish I know........ Still it didn't last too long thank god.

Jewelsandgems · 04/08/2008 22:12

Potty training was easy for us luckily. Started DD1 at 18months as she was always waking with dry nappy, and always read her her fave story on the potty so she ended up looking forward to it. Anyway, she is totally nappy free now at 2 1/2 but we only made the transition away from pull ups when she was 2, and used the bright bots training pants. It is only when we did this that within a few days of wetting herself (and feeling wet, which I believe is crucial) did she begin to go for days and days before she had an accident. And then she would tell me, but if I did not get her on the toilet within a few seconds, she would wee (poor thing!)

Had a lovely day with the DDs today, and had to wake Izzy up this morning! Well, went in at 0620 and she was playing with her bunnies and smiling up at me very cute.

Still no period but now I am doubting I have my dates right - will give it til the end of the week and then do a test [scared emoticon] DH does not want any more children right now so who knows what I'll do.....

Hazey hope the asthma is better now - you could try one of those plug in vapour thingies or would that make it worse?

Chaotica I am very but hope you have a lovely time.

Night all x

Kaybeeand2boys · 04/08/2008 22:12

Oh and my ds1 is just starting to sit on the potty before bath time but has yet to do anythign in it. I got him to sit on it by holding ds2 on it ans saying 'ooh look, Jacob is on the potty' he he he wicked mummy

Chaotica · 05/08/2008 01:30

Jewels - I'm pretty of the woman I'll be once I've set off ... Right now I realise that I'm still packing at 1.30am - will I manage to get me, DD and DS sorted out without forgetting anything crucial?? (Easy answer: No!) (DP can look after himself, fortunately!)

Kaybeeand2boys · 05/08/2008 16:05

oh lucky Chaoticia, I am sooooooo jealous. I DESPERATELY need a holiday

Hazey - can't find the measuring thingy to measure the windows!!!!

Well, we have booked flights to NZ for Nov . Though I am pretty freaked out about what we are going to do with the ds's on a plane for 29 hours all together! Arhhhh

Chaotica · 05/08/2008 18:01

What is it about packing which means that there is always more to do, even though there can only be so much space in my bags? (Maybe I'm just packing smaller and smaller things and it's all going to go on FOREVER... ) (philosophical moment when I really should still be cleaning mouldering toast from behind the sofa...)

Well, I hope this thread is still here in two weeks (then I can tell you whether it's advisable to take a 2 year old and a baby to Turkey or not...). (Kaybee - you are brave going all the way to NZ, although I have a friend whose gone to Oz with 2 young children so you may well be fine.)

Have fun while I'm gone.

simpson · 05/08/2008 18:07

Chaotica - enjoy your holiday I have am off to Holland for 2 weeks soon but have chickened out of flying and we are going in the car!!

justkeepswimming · 05/08/2008 20:46

i'm on the real part of our uk-holiday, ds1 at in-laws, dh, me and ds2 in london for 2 days, ahh the peace, the slower pace, the abillity to put something down and leave it there without a toddler coming and interfering....
