Know what you mean LM - I teach Freya all about animals and insects and plants (that flower petals are delicate and not to be plucked off! etc...) and when we are out, she will stroke a petal and say 'mummy flower petals are delicate!' and I smile

Another rainy and hideously windy day. There is stuff all over the garden (chairs, balls, tall spiky plant things that have been blown over) and I can see the wheelie bins going for a walk around the garden in a minute!

Guys with double buggys (as opposed to those of us with the P&T and doubles kit) do you think it may actually be beneficial for me to pick up a side-by-side double buggy? If only second hand on ebay? I think also Izzy would like having Freya say next to her....
but I have heard they are hard to manouvre and heavy to push is this true?

TattooedGrrrl · 20/10/2008 13:28

jewels- i have a McClaren double where they sit side by side. It's pretty lightweight, and fits all doorways. I'm selling mine actually, as we rarely use it and it's just taking up space. No idea what it would cost to post though It's red and has a rain cover if you're interested. i def prefer them side by side- easier to keep an eye on them too.

i am hobbling round the office today- my legs are ruined!

Just to give a balanced view on the double buggy thing....I borrowed my CM's Maclaren XT double buggy (side by side) and I found it really hard to push and really heavy. It did fot thru doorways but honestly, my neck and shoulders were killing me after only a shortish walk, about 25 mins.

The one I got is basically exactly the same as this one. It's very light ( I really suffer with achey shoulders etc) and has a massive shopping basket.

My DDs love being side by side to each other.

Grrl I think when I was looking on ebay, postage for buggies was between £15-£20 ???

Well if you're interested jewels let me know- i can send you pics too. I've never found mine hard to use, i don't think it's the same model Lucky is talking about either.

We could say £40 plus postage? But i'll take it to my local post office and check how much to send it to make sure it's not too much for you if you are interested.

No worries if you aren't fussed though

Well grrrl what we are going to do is buy the table (see previous post!) and if there is any money left over, then this is what I will have to spend on another buggy. So, I will let you know the result of this and - in the meantime - if you do sell it on ebay, then mores the better for you, as you'll prob get a higher price!

We had a lovely day with Freya today (Izzy was grumpy) and she managed to get 8 reward stickers! She and I were very proud she even found Izzy's long lost shoe for me...I was thinking out loud and said 'where is that other shoe?' and Freya then remarked immediatly 'it's under Izzy's cot mummy!' and there it was!

Nothing else happened today, was a hard day though. Izzy is going through another spell of seperation anxiety and the minute I even head towards the doorway to another room, she starts yelling. Going to go to bed soon, curl up with book and DH and sleeeep.

TattooedGrrrl · 21/10/2008 05:31

okey dokey- i put it on the classifieds on here yesterday, for someone to collect locally. Hopefully someone will have it. Desperate for cash at the moment. Selling my babydan playpen aswell.

Having new windows today, which is going to be nice, but means i'm in the house with the kids and the window fellas. The boss said they'll do upstairs while i stay in the living room, then do the living room while i go upstairs with the kids. More builder type mess and noise Still, got to be done, then no more draughty old windows.

I can't believe how much other people's older DCs talk either- George barely puts 2 words together. Although he has started counting 1-2-3 to himself which is quite good i think.

Both kids are streaming with snot and have been up since silly o clock as usual.

OP posts:
luckymummy74 · 21/10/2008 10:10

Grrl I feel for you today - I hate any work being done on the house. Esp being in the hose with kids while the workmen are in.

My two are snotty too. Well, DD1 has a chesty cough and DD2 woke up with thick green snot smeered all over her cheek (nice).

Jewelsandgems · 21/10/2008 11:41

Hello girls just a quickie whilst Izzy chews on a ruskit thingy and Freya is building a lego house.

Well this morning Izzy screamed her head off when I put her in the buggy again. I just don't know what else to do! Even tried her in the back seat and she seemed even worse! Is it just a phase and I am just going to have to dummy her up and hope it passes soon?

Freya was in the buggy the whole way there and mostly back today because it was heavy rain and windy so I was the one giving the 'back in the buggy!' orders!

And grrrl I would not even give a though to George not speaking that much yet, in my experience boys take much much longer to start with preper sentances then girls - it's like they have the ability, but don't start til they are really really confident and ready. Then you'll not be able to shut him up!

luckymummy74 · 21/10/2008 14:29

Just had to take DD2 to A&E as a catalogue fell off the kitchen units and landed on her head....right on her strawberry birth mark, which is very vascular, so it bled loads. Spirting out immediately....bit of a shock! Poor DD1 was very distressed seeing DD2 screaming so much and all the blood .

I dropped DD1 off at the CM and took DD2 to A&E. She's fine now. It's stopped bleeding and she's asleep in her cot.

Bit of a shock though...trust DH to be at work when I need him!

simpson · 21/10/2008 15:59

Luckymummy74 - what an awful thing to happen Your poor DDs (DD1 for seeing it and DD2 for the distress) Hope things are ok. Tell DH you are putting your feet up this evening with a glass of wine!!!

Grrrl - well done on run

Well it appears that DD can't have soya yogurts either. 2hrs after eating one the screaming and straining began HV says this means she is intolerant to the sugars in dairy products as the sugars are the same in soya. Oh well...will wait till I see doc next week I guess.

Can't believe this is ds's last week at playgroup I think I will be sadder than him saying goodbye to all the people there!! He is starting pre school after half term. He is quite excited about it

Jewelsandgems · 21/10/2008 16:34

OMG LM how very distressing for all of you. Just goes to show what an excellent mummy you must be to handle that kind of thing on your own I would be panic-city!

It is raining again.

I have bodybalance tonight with the rugby team again. God, it is hard to concentrate when you are sure they are looking as your arse. But then you go near the front and they are checking out your tits in the mirrors! Arrrgh! and

Hello simpson again, sorry to hear about your recent bout of intolerances. My neices both had dairy intolerances and these cleared up by the time the girls were 5. Although my brother in law kept them on a non-dairy diet anyway (why?)

luckymummy74 · 21/10/2008 16:57

Thanks girls....I was quite pleased with how I dealt with the situation as I am normally a bit of a panic-er. Apart from not being able to speak to CM when I rang her cos a) DD2 was screaming her head off in my ear and 2) I was blubbing.....I think I did OK.

BabiesEverywhere · 21/10/2008 19:18

I have a 2 year old DD and 2 month old DS. I co-sleep with DS and tandem nurse both children. I have a massive headache and need to go to bed after a long day but I I can't until I have emptied and reload washing machine and dishwasher, do some ironing and pack bags for tomorrow and TBH feel like crying as I am STILL nursing DS and can't start on my to do list until he is finally full and that might be hours off...argghhh. I just want to sleep and have some tea at some point. I can't wait until DH comes home, he'll make me a sandwich/cup of tea...he is a total sweetie.

Nice to meet you ladies

Jewelsandgems · 21/10/2008 22:23

Nice to meet you too babies and my god does it sound like you have your hands full! Well, hoping your DH came in and did all those chores you had left on your list, enabling you to re-lax and get your little DS off to sleep after a good feed.

Just off to bed after pilates, then home for wine, nachos and film. Mmmm. Have to make up some babymilk first though - night all

Chaotica · 21/10/2008 22:28

Evening All,

LM74 - Your poor DD2! You dealt with it really well (as I think everyone has said already). I hope she recovers quickly (and your DD2 does from the shock).

Grrrl - I wouldn't worry about the talking (I was late and never shut up now ). As long as George understands you (and perhaps also tries to convey some info to you by pointing and such) I think it's just a matter of time. Freya is really fluent, but I really didn't expect her to be (thought she might be like I was); OTOH my nephew didn't really get going until 2.5 (and he started counting first too). (He's top of his class for reading etc now he's 6 - [proud aunty emoticon] - so it hasn't made the blindest bit of difference to him.)

Hi Babieseverywhere and welcome back - I hope you got some help from your DH. Do you use a sling for nursing DS at all? I did when DS was small and it really saved me from sitting doing nothing all evening. With DD I used to give her a bottle of expressed milk in the evenings to stop her feeding all night. Didn't work with DS though as he had reflux so whole lot would have just come straight back up [yuk] [sorry!] Do you ever get a break when DD is out, or do you always have two together (which must be hard)?

BabiesEverywhere · 22/10/2008 08:46

Sorry my introduction message was ranty. DS fell asleep and I finished most of my chores by 9:30pm and went to blissfull bed

Yes, I have both kids together all the time and it is tiring. I am lucky that my DH makes a big effort to be home early to help with the tea and bedtime bit which really helps.

Yes, I have slings but I struggle to nurse well enough to be totally hands free. I can nurse in a sling but I need to ither sit down or use one hand to hold my breast or sling to ensure everything is in the right position.

To be honest one of the big advantages of breastfeeding is that it makes you sit and rest at regular intervals. The all evening nursing sessions are just growth spurts once my milk has increased to his need, the number of feeds will decrease. Growth spurts are hard at the time but usually short in duration

luckymummy74 · 22/10/2008 10:32

Welcome babies. Blimey O'Riley..you really have got your work cut out...you make my life seem like a walk in the park! BF 2 children, that's amazing!
I'm glad your DH is helpful, it makes a big difference doesn't it.

DD2 is fine today after 'blood-gate'...ha ha! See, I can even laugh about it!!

simpson · 22/10/2008 10:52

Lucky - LOL at blood-gate

Babies - welcome!! Glad you got to bed at a reasonable hour last night

DD running me ragged today she started the day at 5am has been battling for morning nap for nearly an hour she finally fell asleep but has now just woken after being asleep for 10 mins. Grrrrr.

Also DS's playgroup closed today because a staff member is sick and they don't have anyone to cover. I envisage a bored toddler today....

Jewelsandgems · 23/10/2008 07:15

OMG girls how do you do it? Izzy was up 4 times last night - 4! 4! I think she was too busy crawling around her cot then walling alseep and getting cold. But then she has woken in very good mood today and - you kno what that means - there is a chance she was not that tired, ergo, maybe I have to change her daytime naps around. I think her 8-9 has to change to 9-10 and her 12-2pm has to change to 1-3pm. Then no more naps. Wish me luck instigating this!!

All else fine, looking forward to the weekend. There is this tree light show near us, so may take Freya to that!

luckymummy74 · 23/10/2008 10:07

DD2 has hospital appt today for ??retinoblastoma...

wish us luck

Chaotica · 23/10/2008 11:54

Oh good luck, Luckymummy - I hope it's all ok. That sounds really frightening.

Jewels - I think they all go through the 'sleep-crawling' phase Freya used to wake and yell because she's bashed her head.

Talking of heads, Connor can now put his hands on his when you ask and he looks so pleased with himself... it's really cute (favourite song - head, shoulders, knees and toes, obviously).

Had a car booster seat delivered today (DD is that big ) which I'm glad to say arrived in a big empty box (very good for entertainment purposes, although Connor has already fallen in head first...).

Must go to playgroup now.

simpson · 23/10/2008 13:25

Good luck today luckymummy.

Have had the sleep crawling thing for the last couple of nights too. DD woke at 3am, 5am and wanted to start day at 6am. Am knackered!!!

Jewelsandgems · 23/10/2008 13:47

Well good to know the sleep crawling thing is just a phase. Although having looking in her mouth, looks like she has cut her first top tooth last night too, so maybe the discomfort was just keeping her up, and thus she started wondering around her cot. Will see tonight I guess!

Good luck today LM, hope the appt goes well.

chaotica that does indeed sound very cute - isn't it nice when they start being aware of what things are etc...Izzy so far is only aware what milk is, and food. We have stopped the babyfood for the time being, because she eats exactly what we eat most of the time, have stopped adding any salt now just incase she wants some, and she is very happy with the most lumpt of food!

Just eating a mini roll....nothing else to report really, went out today and got wet, doing some washing....may eat another mini roll....

sweetkitty · 23/10/2008 13:57

hi ladies not read all the thread but wanted to say hello I currently have 3mo DD3 and 2yo DD2, also have 4yo DD1. Theres 18 months between DD1 and 2 so done the 2 under 2 bit as well. From experience it does get easier once the second one reaches about a year and can walk and chase after the first one.

Chaotica · 24/10/2008 10:04

Hi Sweetkitty (and welcome) and morning all [yawn]...

We have a sleep crawling problem around here too. Maybe it's not a phase - perhaps it's just the time of year. (Annoyingly Connor is now fast asleep on my bed having kept me awake for ages from 3am onwards.)
