no idea what job you got but CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

re the sleep- i used to know someone who had early risers like yours. she said the only way to keep her sanity was to just get up and start the day, as trying to fight it and moan was killing her. granted, she lived in australia so she just bundled up the kids in the double buggy and went for a walk on the beach at 6am, which you obviously can't do. but perhaps if you just accept that, momentarily, that's how things are... make a point of going to bed extra early at least every other day and try and see the positives (they do at least sleep through!).

sorry- perhaps this is annoying patronising advice, but meant well. i went through so many horrible months, ac tually years, of no sleep with dd1 and only when i finally accepted that she was a crap sleeper and no matter what i did she was still going to sleep crap i started to feel better. dd2 is also a crap sleeper, in all honesty. this time round though i am not so stressed about it, just tired, but not beating myself up. one day they will sleep....

Chaotica · 16/10/2008 16:03

That's great news, Grrrl! Congratulations.

I like beforesunrise's advice about just treating 5am as the start of the day(not that it applies to me) - but I don't know whether I'd be able to put it into action. (I'm not a morning person... and certainly not a sociable one.)

My two are grisly and tired and have been all day, so my fingers are crossed that they might actually nap in the next minute or two (or hour...). Even playgroup didn't have the usual magical effect (although it was better than getting frustrated at home with mummy).

Well done on the job grrrl.

I've had a good day today (you know how you have good days and bad days, well today was a good day). Probably helped by the fact that DD1 was at her CM 10am-2pm (we have to send her twice a week to keep her place open). I had a really productive day of making some mashed veggies ready for weaning DD2 in 2 weeks time, did the ironing, tidied up, played with them both...

Just waiting for DH to get home from work cos I'm STARVING!

Jewelsandgems · 16/10/2008 20:28

Wow massive congrats grrrl and if makes you feel any better mine sleep til 6am and my day starts there. I do not nap, or anything til going to bed. Granted Iz sometimes sleeps til 0630. I get Freya up at 7ish and by that time Iz is fed milk and solid food, then I make us all toast and we eat that together [sometimes sitting on rug in front of fire] I am in bed for 10pm though - well 9.30 really because DH and I read for a while anyway in bed.

Izzy now she is crawling is such a lovely playful girl. She is into everything. Freya has been delightful today too and we have had lots of fun being silly and dancing to radio1 in the kitchen [silly mummy emoticon]

sat and drank vintage champagne tonight do recommend it girls - no need for an occasion just indulge yourself

TattooedGrrrl · 17/10/2008 06:35

i'm normally in bed by 9.30pm too jewels

Well, George slept until 5.30, Dyl slept through until 5am, had some milk and lay quiet in his bed for a bit. Not bad. I couldn't sleep properly last night though, so i am knackered anyway!

3 days until the 10km

Aaaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhh

That pretty much sums up my day so far lol

Got up fed Cara made barrett breakfast and then struggled to kep my eyes open all morning as sleep seems to be the best cure for morning sickness (ironic). Try to lure barret into a nap but the boy is not for turning. So we head out to town I was going to get his hair cut leave the car in town for DH to drive home after work and catch the bus to baby group. But we have been in town an hour when Barrett starts playing up as he is tired no buggy for him anymore so I reluctantly get into the car to go back home. I have a stupidly long car with a broken wing mirror so as I reverse out of the stupidly small space I scrape the car next to me as the woman returns to it Thqankfully she is lovely and they are going to call me with how much it will cost to see if I want to involve insuracne etc. But oh my god. And I still feel sick and have a whole house to tidy.

Needed to rant sorry!

Kaybeeand2boys · 17/10/2008 14:24

Congrats on the job grrl

I am sooooooooooo tired, I have had a week of about 4 hours sleep a night. Not the kids fault though, it's my cough keeping me awake. I have to sleep on the sofa as I don't want to wake ds2 up. Off to get some cough medicine that induces drowsiness....

JustKeepSwimming · 17/10/2008 15:50

Congrats Grrl

Kaybee - try night nurse? works a treat, in fact try half a dose first off!

argh can sum up parts of my day too!

why did i bother going to playgroup this morning when ds1 wants to leave early and come home and it meant that ds2 didn't get his morning nap so has been mr. grumpy since. (finally given in and gone to sleep now, thank goodness)
think i will skip it for a few weeks, or at least go late AFTER ds2's nap.

dh should be home soon, he can have ds1 and i'm going back to bed!

Jewelsandgems · 17/10/2008 16:33

Hello girls have had a good day, pilates was very revitilising and I was surprised when the class was over it felt like it had only been 5 mins! Then went for a coffee with my friend and then home for lunch.

Izzy still has a cold and I am wondering how long to leave it before I go to the doctors? She has had the cold about 4/5 days now, though she is not grumpy in herself anymore.

I am having a buggy situation and need some opinions. You know I have the P&T but it does not seem to fit a buggy board. I am at the stage where I want to leave the doubles seat and use a buggy board, so Freya does not always have the option of wanting to get back in [especially near the big hill on the way home] I was thinking of getting another 3 wheeler - maybe the quinny speedi (is fine for buggy board) but am I just being silly and swapping like for like? Shall I just perservere with the hunt for an approrpriate buggy board? ~What are you all doing

Anyway dinner ready, speak later -

Chaotica · 17/10/2008 21:20

Evening all

Sorry to hear some of your Aaaaargh stories... Think my day would have been 'Aaaaargh!' but I was saved by my CM (who doesn't seem to have the whingey desperate day that I would have had -- but that's why she has the job she has and is good at it, I guess - the DCs were lovely by the time she handed them back).

I was up about four times with DS, and despite calpol at 4am he wouldn't settle from 6am on (bear in mind he goes to bed at 8.30) even when I put him in our bed. So having been punched and scratched for a while I decided to get him up, only for him to wake DD too with his screaming... Then (hours later), I had to go to work (a 100 mile round trip - am I fit to drive??).

So I am knackered. But work was sure easier than childcare today...

Chaotica · 17/10/2008 21:26

BTW Mummy of 2 and a bit -- LOL (sorry!) to hear about your car story... Only because I did something very similar when pg... ooops - is that the brake or the accelerator? I can't remember... [dumb emoticon]

And Jewels - don't know what I'd do with your buggy problem but I see where you're coming from. Freya can walk really well, but when she's tired or ill, she really needs the double buggy. And sometimes she uses it when she could walk fine... I decided yesterday that when someone is old enough to give you directions about where to push the buggy, they're old enough to walk! (DD "You want to push us onto the pavement over there mummy where the kerb is really little..." (and so on) And it would save my back!

Chaotica · 19/10/2008 00:06

Is it tomorrow you're running, Grrrl? If you are - good luck

Chaotica · 19/10/2008 00:07

(Probably today, by now...)

TattooedGrrrl · 19/10/2008 07:43

yes, today

i'm knackered, Dyl was up last night and the kids have both been up since silly o clock

Jewelsandgems · 19/10/2008 13:02

Good luck for the run grrrl! Could you have not insisted that your DH be on 'duty' through the night so you had a good nights sleep?

Well chaotica for like a week Freya is fine with walking, and then she changes and does not want to walk at all [until we walk beside the park and all the leaves are just waiting to be kicked and swooshed around and then it's suddently 'mummy! I want to get out!'. Maybe I am expecting too much too soon and the shops are a good 10 minute walk from my house. Will bear with it a little more and perhaps review again in the spring...

Well my laptop still needs to be sorted in the states so we resorted to getting out an old sony viao we had lurking around and I amm using that for now. It has rollyball mouse and everything! Rather strange to get used to, but quite nice actually!

The rain is depressing.....we were supposed to go out this morning but never got around to it. I want to go to homebase because we are after a round glass dining table and - although there are quite a few around - it's choosing the right one. And since we already have a lovely birch one from Next that just isn't working practicially for us right now - the girls legs when on the booster chairs/highchair are getting wedged against the deep wooden ledge part that sits beaneath the table top - and when on holiday realised how easy a round ledge-less table was. So, I have sold loads of my old work gear on ebay and have saved up the £150 needed. But the question is - why to put our current table!!!! arrrgh!

Anyway, table rant over. Hoping you are all ok, and enjoying a less rainy weekend than me.

TattooedGrrrl · 19/10/2008 14:16

I DID IT! I ran 3km straight, then alternated between jogging / walking for the other 7km. I am already seizing up and sore, but really proud of myself. Going to train properly next year though. Raised £200 aswell.

Well Done GRRRL! [definate high five!]

Chaotica · 19/10/2008 16:05

Well done, Grrrl! Enjoy the rest (and the aches...)

luckymummy74 · 19/10/2008 16:23

jewels how old is Freya? My DD1 is 2.5yrs and she walks good distances. It started with the CM making her walk on her 'school run'......a mile !!! She only walks one way and buggy back, but it's still a mile!!! She can manage about 20-25 mins walk. I insist she holds the buggy when near a road, but if in a resi area she can walk on her own, but is much slower

I got a double buggy on ebay for £25 (a snip!), it's a mothercare own brand one, side by side but lightweight and ma-hussive shopping basket. Anyway, DD1 is really almost too big for it, but I take it to town (about a mile walk) and she will walk most of the way, but has the option to get in if she's winding me up getting tired.

I'm glad I didn't spend loads on a double buggy, my CM kept telling me not to bother getting one as DD1 would be walking mostly soon...I didn't believe her, but she was right. Also, cos DD1 does so much walking, she tires herself out and then has a good 1-2 hr nap!!! .

I don't know if that helps you at all?

Grrrl well done on your 10K, what an achievement anyway, but esp with all your lack of sleep!

Well, I've had a good day. I decided to brave taking both of mine to mass, it's an hour long service. I normally go midweek as it's quieter and only 25 mins....but...they were both good as gold (DH doesn't come to church with me so I am 'toute seule'!) I was so chuffed . There have been many times when I have left church, got home and just cried . But not today .

Why can't everyday be like today? Although I have to say, DD2 is def getting easier now she is almost 6 months.

Jewelsandgems · 19/10/2008 17:52

LM she is 2.5, and she does walk the whole way back which is 1 mile and very hilly(and most days about half the way there because when we walk past the massive trees she gets out there too) - She always holds my hands when crossing roads (TBH your buggy is defintely a bargain at £25 but I don't know how I would cope without the P&T it really is my saviour and the way we treck up hills and out into forests I don't think any other doubly buggy would allow anything like that!) and except from that she is free to roam and walks near me. We often collect things on the way home - pinecones, interesting stones (and some stuff that is plain wet from rain and not interesting at all!) so I do try and make it fun.

6 months is a definate progressive phase I think LM. Izzy got loads easier after that and then it just gets better and better!

We took a trip to Tescos when hungry so bought loads of food and also started stocking up on stollen and stuff for christmas. Then tonight it is bottle of good red, strictly results show and maybe some nachos and dips for later. Mmmm I can almost forgive today for raining all day now, and feel all cozy

Bye for now ladies

luckymummy74 · 19/10/2008 19:06

Enjoy your treats jewels!! It sounds as if Freya is doing really well with her walking?!

Chaotica · 19/10/2008 22:59

Evening, Ladies.

I quite agree about the walking - you have to get your toddler into the habit early and then they treat walking a fair way as normal (whereas I have friends who have made the mistake of letting their LO use the buggy for ages who now have children who won't walk around the corner). That said, I still think a double buggy is handy for long walks and meltdowns , or just when you're trying to get somewhere and don't want your DC exhausted when they arrive.

BTW though Luckymummy - I paid 30 quid for my double... (secondhand mama's and papa's) -- I was robbed!

luckymummy74 · 20/10/2008 11:59

chaotica totally agree with you. My SILs take their kids everywhere in the car and they won't walk even the shortest of distances and they are all about 8/9/13.

One of things I love about bringing up kids is how much you can influence what they then see as 'the norm', in a (hopefully!) positive way. i.e. DD1 (2.5 yrs) knows all about what we recycle and what goes in the compost bin etc etc. I realise this isa generation thing, but my MIL never recycles (really winds me up) and I can't help thinking that DD1 is only 2 and she knows more about recycling than her 60 year old gran!!!

And you weren't robbed...mine was only a mothercare own brand one(although I have to say it's streets ahead of the Maclaren one I borrowed to try out first).

Just nicked your idea jewels and we collected all different coloured leaves on the way home from the post office to make Autumn collages later on today . DD1 LOVED it!
