hi all, lovely weather here again

ds1 off colour tho he ASKED to go to bed and slept for 3 hours, up watching tv now but doesn't want to eat anything, not even a 'mummy biscuit'! i know he has a cold and cough but didn't think it was anything major. will try calpol later if he stays hot, not sure if temp or cos he was tucked up in bed for so long.

dh put an old trampoline in the car to take to the tip and it has filled the car with spiders
he hoovered it all out but...
more spiders found in car yest - 6! one was crawling around near me whilst driving home from park, luckily quiet roads....
eventually they'll give up right with lack of food????? please?

grrl - good shopping!

shy - will look at link and see but good luck generally!

Jewelsandgems · 20/09/2008 20:47

Hello ladies!

Am now back frm holiday! Was nice of you to wonder where I was

Sorry to hear about pox attack cazwa, thank god it is over with! And definate ROFL re your grass situation!

Simpson that is a total bugger about your DH. Cannot imagne how hard it is for you, and hoping things for your DH start to turn around for the better

Grrrl love the sound of the plum hair, bet it makes your eyes look amazing and well done re the shopping too! I had a week in london so I did buy....erm........a few essentials. [we all need a good supply of jackets right?] and sounds like your night waking situation is alot better now so well done

Welcome skimty and best of luck re the birth

Glad all going ok for the rest of you and wishing you a long relaxing sleepy lay in tomorrow.

And I am a total routine mum but have found listening to my friends who are not, that there are equal good and bad points with routine/no routine. If things are getting out of control then a routine will always help that, but if it is nothing too serious, I find babies/toddlers have lots of 'phases' that soon stop. And then the next one begins!

Chaotica · 20/09/2008 22:29

Evening, Ladies, and welcome home, Jewels (so glad you've been shopping -- we were all wondering where you'd been and I guess this comes as no surprise [smile}

Lovely weather here as well. I just wish we lived near a beach. Rather foolishly, I insisted that we go off and find somewhere new to go and we ended up driving around interesting looking castles and parks and forests, only to find them closed or hosting weddings and the like... We did find somewhere eventually, but had to share it with a local radio roadshow - I've had more peaceful afternoons. The best thing I did was buy some bubbles at the gift shop and DD chased them all over the place Hope we get more sunshine tomorrow (but maybe I'll stick to tried and tested country parks...).

BTW - I know this is done to death on behaviour/development threads, but does anyone have a strategy with the persistent toddler "NO!" (DD says it to everything, and I'd love some ideas...)

DYLAN SLEPT THROUGH LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DOES A LITTLE DANCE

OP posts:
TattooedGrrrl · 21/09/2008 18:31

Re: the 'no' thing Chaotica, i sang that 'no no' song by 2Unlimited (remember that?!) It was so annoying he gave up.

We're now experiencing the 'why? why? why?' stage. Grrrr.

beforesunrise · 21/09/2008 18:38

i am so happy for you grrl, i am at the moment going through a really atrocious sleep phase, dd1 takes aaaages and no end of tantrums to settle in the evenings, then wakes up a million times a night and ends up in our bed... dd2 used to be good (even slept through 9-7 2 weeks ago, but generally waking up only once) and now is up every bloody hour! she wants to suck, but i don't think she is hungry, just desperately looking for my boob... doesnt want a dummy, i ahve tried a million, and can't find her finger.

i dont even know where to start fixing this awful situation.. i am shattered!!!

TattooedGrrrl · 22/09/2008 06:38

oh beforesunrise

if it's any consolation, DS2 had me up for an hour in the night, as he's got a cold, so my dance was a bit premature.

PIL came over yesterday, asked if they can take both the boys one Saturday afternoon for a few hours, and maybe have them both overnight in a month or so. (They only have DS1 at the moment) I am SO up for that I started planning lovely grown up things to do, and DH pointed out we'd probably still flake out at 9pm, but i don't care!

OP posts:
Jewelsandgems · 22/09/2008 07:33

Sorry to hear that grrrl but I am sure this is only a minor setback and Dylan will carry on getting better with it.

We have cut out the dreamfeed! She is only taking 120mils now which being such a small amount is neither here nor there so that's it! We got back off holiday and I thought no more! So, she was wrestling around her cot at 11pm but we did not go in, and then at 3 she woke us (on front, wrapped in cot bumper, dummy on floor) so after a quick turn over and dummy retrieval, all was well. And then I woke her at 6 and she was very hungry! Anyway girls, she is just about to shuffle under sofa so have to dash...

simpson · 22/09/2008 09:29

Hi all

Sorry i have not been on here for a bit. Am still at my mum's and intend to be here for a while. The good news is that DH seems on the mend although it was pretty scary for a while. Think the medication is kicking in an he is now being quite rational....

DS been a bit upset the last few days as he wants to go home but DD is a little star and has not stopped smiling, laughing etc.

I feel bad as I was finding her hard work before and think she must have picked up on tensio etc...

Jewels - good luck on cutting out dream feed...

Grrrl - A night off I would be excited too!!

Beforesunrise - sorry you are getting so little sleep

Chaotica - Can't help with the "no" sorry but my DS tells me off when I say no to him saying "It's not very nice to say no mummy!"

JKS - shudder at spiders!!

Kaybeeand2boys · 22/09/2008 15:21

Hello all,
DS2 driving me mad, during the day will only sleep for half an hour then wakes up and screams AND WILL NOT GO BACK TO SLEEP

It's doing my head in. I leave him when he wakes to see if he will resettle, but usually he just screams his head off indefinately...... I KNOW he is stil tired.

I just don't know what to do with him......

Kaybeeand2boys · 22/09/2008 15:22

Glad your DH is doing better simpson

beforesunrise · 22/09/2008 18:45

kaybee- i have EXACTLY the same with dd2. she does 30, max 45 mins. and it is not enough, she is still tired, but wont go back to sleep...

dd1 was the same, it took her a looooong time to outgrow this one but now i have to wake her up from her nap after 2 hours...

Chaotica · 23/09/2008 00:45

Evening, ladies...

Don't mention naps! DS is not much of a napping kind of baby - can't remember how long it took for DD to fall asleep for a couple of hours in the afternoon. I think she was around the age he is now. (If he does nap for a while, I keep checking on him because I can't really believe it.)

Grrrl - Sorry to hear Dylan has a cold. I nearly mentioned that Connor only sleeps through just before he gets a cold, but it seemed cruel to interrupt your happy dancing. They'll get it in the end - they can't keep waking up forever (hopeful ).

Simpson - Glad to hear your DH is doing better, but it must be so disruptive to you and the DCs not being at home. Your poor DS - it must be really tough for him. (I remember it being hard enough to behave normally in front of the kids while the car was broken down one stormy night - can't imagine how hard it is to keep going in a real crisis.)

Must go - I'm working tomorrow...

TattooedGrrrl · 23/09/2008 06:56

Glad things are getting better Simpson

Dyl slept until 4.30am, gave him a bottle and he went off for another hour. And George got up at 5.30am- hooray!

Should be dry today, and i'm not in work, so taking them both to the park. Should get some washing dry aswell i hope.

Not much news other than that really.

Chaotica · 24/09/2008 00:19

Countdown to DS's first birthday... (3 shopping days left!) And I still haven't got him anything . But I'd much rather take him swimming tomorrow than trail him around town looking for baby toys which he then can't play with. I am a bad mother (or maybe just a disorganised one) - it'll be alright in the end (or else we'll never be able to admit what a mess we made of his first birthday ).

Glad Dylan is getting better, Grrrl.

Kaybeeand2boys · 24/09/2008 09:04

If any one is there do you have any thoughts on this;

DS1 fell down stairs and hit hit head at the bottom on the skirting.

He has a huge egg on his head at the hairline, and a cut accross it. He cried for a couple of mins but now seems fine and has had breakfast, and is watching cbeebies. I have tried to put a cold compress on it but he is having none of it!

Have made an apt for doctors but earliest was 11, just wonder if I am over reacting going to doc, or am I under reacting and should I be heading to A & E ???

He doesn't hurt himself that often so not sure what to do

Chaotica · 24/09/2008 09:13

Ow! Kaybee. I can understand why you're worried. Do your doctors every do a 'call back' service? (We can ring our gp and as questions like that - ie should I just be heading for a&e.)

FWIW if he seems fine and has a huge external bump that's a good thing. Don't know what I'd do to be honest [no bloody use emoticon]

Kaybeeand2boys · 24/09/2008 09:26

thanks Chaotica, it just looks so sore! But he is playing etc, so seems fine. Not sure if the docs have a call back service, I guess I will just keep an eye on him and take him along at 11 just to make sure. They will prob laugh me out of the surgery though.

TattooedGrrrl · 24/09/2008 10:30

ooh Kaybee, DS1 fell the whole stairs this week too, i can still see him tumbling down I got him to wiggle his fingers / arms / legs so i could see they were all ok, and asked the childminder to keep an eye on him incase he'd banged his head. TBH, as long as he's not sick and drowsy, or bleeding a great deal, it's most prob fine. If checking makes you feel better though, don't worry.

Both boys are napping, took DS1 for a haircut this morning. On the way back we met a man walking a Rottweiler, so i was talking to DS1 saying things 'ooh look at that nice dog, isn't he big, bet he eats lots etc' when the man started panicking and trying to drag the dog into a nearby house because he's aggressive towards kids. I shit myself at the time, i'm angry i didn't tell him off now for taking out a dog like that without a muzzle. He was a scrawny guy too, he was really struggling to control the dog. Arsehole!

Hi - I'm new to mn and wondered if I could join in the thread...? hazeyjane pointed me in your direction.

My ds is 2 next month and dd is nine months old.

TattooedGrrrl · 24/09/2008 13:05

Hi Kittkat,

I have 2 DSs, 2yr 3mths and 11mths.

OP posts:
Kaybeeand2boys · 24/09/2008 14:43

hi kittkat

Grrrl, thanks for that - hope your ds is ok too. We popped up to the docs just to check and she said much the same thing, just checked his pupils etc. Seems fine thou and has forgotten all about it, just poor me who has to keep looking at it all day!

Chaotica · 24/09/2008 18:04

Hi Kittkat and welcome I have DD (2.5) and DS who is a year on saturday.

Kaybee - glad to hear your DS is OK, even if you're still shaken. DD had a phase of falling and banging exactly the same part of her face on furniture and had a nasty cut above her eye for weeks as a result (I began to think people would assume we'd done it ). Months later, her toys still bang their eyes when they fall... (And I always expect her to do it again )

DS has some presents! I'm not a bad mummy after all (and he got to go swimming, so he didn't miss out).

Where is Hazeyjane these days? I miss her (and I know she's posting on other threads...) [rejected emoticon]

Jewelsandgems · 24/09/2008 19:19

Welcome kitkat. I have Freya who is 2.5 and Izzy who is 9 months tomorrow.

I hate it when one of the girls has a tumble - and Freya is very dramatic, kind of wails for ages after. Izzy cries for a little bit but, lately, has been trying out some freya-type wailing.

chaotica good point regarding hazeyjane, she has not posted since end of last month. Maybe she is just having a mad time? I do also notice that quite a few of the new joiners just post a few times and then we don't hear from then again. Are we scaring them off?

Izzy been grumpsville today and Freya was after her lunchtime nap. She spent most of it running around her room and putting on all her pairs of socks, then she slept for 10 mins before it was wakey time. It took her a good hour to stop saying 'no' to everything and accept a drink of 'pink' milk (milk with strawberry milkshake added)

Freya is getting so good at talking I am amazed. She is using sentances all the time, and I don' mean short ones. At bed time when is was time for hugs and kisses she said "I want to hug you both at the same time" and we proceeded to have a 3 way hug and then a 3 way kiss (very sweet). I say amazed because she was always slower at everything than others her age (except for the potty training, I have to say). She is still smaller than all the other girls of the same age [whom I know] though....have been offering her lots of that aptimal growth formula drink, let's see if it works!

Well done on the productive day chaotica with the present purchasing and swimming![ooooh! Get you emoticon]

Cazwa · 24/09/2008 20:27

Hi all, quick flying visit as I have a ton of work to do this evening on the laptop I am so snowed under at work and unfortunately have to manage a really skivey guy who never pulls his weight and I end up doing the bulk of everything. Even my boss sympathised today saying I was working with a 'dead hand' i.e. him.

We are officially potty training! Stella woke from a nap on friday and her first words were 'no nappy, put pants on, want to wee on potty'!!! Shes never done a single wee on the potty so I was a bit sceptical (perfect time to use [hmmm]) but thought I'll see how we get on till bathtime. She managed by the end of the day to do one in the potty after a few accidents, but the next day and since then shes been great! One or two accidents a day, but mainly all on the potty and even the toilet at playgroup and swimming pool. She even managed nursery ok, lots of accidents in the mornign but 2 on potty by end of day. (Proud mummy emoticon)
Shes so sweet though, she asked me if her keyworker lyndsey would hold her hand if she needed a poo like I do.

Billy not himself today, been up once already to resettle, had to lie him on our bed with me beside him to get him to sleep. think we are in for a bad night. Not sure if its finally chickenpox or some other bug. Off his food and not done a poo today, both very unlike him. Fingers crossed he is ok.

Finally, one sweet thing to share. When DC have their bottles on my bed at night, they now like to lie next to each other under the duvet holding hands how cute!!!
