Hi Ladies, and hello Umlellala and welcome

Feeling a bit less insane today (managed to get out of the house yesterday and today, so the walled-in cabin fever is slowly subsiding ). Took DS swimming as DD was at the CM and he loved it - he'll be swimming before DD at this rate (she likes it, but doesn't exactly try to swim).

Doesn't seem like very long ago that I didn't have to think about what to do with DS at all and now he wants all day entertainment (he is currently trying to dance to Motorhead , although he likes a bit of hip hop as well). He seems to have dropped most daytime naps in favour of sleeping in (a proper little teenager - he can even switch the tv on). Wish we could work out how to get him sleeping in DD's room rather than ours though.

Jewels - glad you're better.

Grrrl - poor Dylan. And poor you. Do you think he's ill again, or is it teeth? (I started treating Connor's ear with some of the ear drops we had in the house already from his last infection [bad lazy mummy emoticon]. It worked though [smug mummy] I hope you find out what's wrong soon.

Chaotica · 08/09/2008 18:14

BTW forgot to mention: it's Connor's first birthday in a couple of weeks and I just don't know what to get him.

DD has so many toys (and she's not a very girly girl so we have trainsets, lego, cars and stuff). We bought her a swing for her first birthday (among other things) but we've not got a huge garden (Jewels I am !) so I can't go and buy a slide (say) to go with it . Any ideas? Please!

Cazwa · 08/09/2008 22:03

Hi all, quick post as Im going to force myself to bed early. Just to report that Ive put both DC in the same room now, last night was the first night and it was a success!! Tonight was even better. They are sharing a tiny room, you can touch both cot and bed by standing in the middle of the room without even stretching much. We just got so sick of nto being able to read in bed at night (as well as other bedtime stuff ) that we thought we'd bite the bullet. They have been sleeping great for ages so it was now or never. Had to switch the bedtime routine around a bit so that they both get their bottles on our bed and books before we put them to bed, used to read in their bedroom with DD but no room to do this in a little chair with both.
Tactic has been to put DS down first as he usually passes out after his bottle, then put DD down a bit later after more books, then hope she wont wake him with her singing.

HAHAH as I type this he is crying - bugger!!!

Teach me to be so smug, I swear whenever I write something on here about them sleeping well it curses me.

Hes gone back to sleep, phew. I am on edge now though. DD grunted and rolled over.

We are back from Nice, 3 nights without kids was bliss but also hard, we really missed them by the end. Wont be doing it again for a long time.

Right, Im off for an early night seeing as tonight might not be so great, he is bleating agian. Looks like hes in with me for the night!

Waves to all !!!

simpson · 08/09/2008 23:17

Hi guys am back from Ireland sorry haven't had time to catch up on thread

Think I may have to join you all with bad sleepers. DD who has been going through the night since 11 weeks was dreadful while we were away. I was up with her twice each night feeding her and because I had to share a room with her kept getting woken up by her sucking her thumb VERY loudly!! Am hoping either it was a growth spurt (she is 7mths), or because its not her usual room or maybe teeth.

She had her christening yesterday which went well, but she was VERY grizzly afterwards and no one but me could hold her which was a pity as it was with Dh's family who we will only see once or twice a year.

TattooedGrrrl · 09/09/2008 05:49

Chaotica- for George's last birthday we took him on a day out, rather than got him many presents, because he's got tons of books and toys.

Cazwa- was Nice nice? (That's made me LOL now...so tired!) I don't think i could do 3 nights either, but for my birthday in February i've suggested we go to London for 1 night and leave them both with PIL. I hope it happens!

Last night was really good- he went down around 7pm, woke twice around 10.30 and 2.30, and is still asleep now, in his bed!

Right, i lied, he's awake now...BUT IN HIS OWN BED! He's down to 2 ozs of diluted milk too when he wakes, which is good.

Am up with George now, and can hear DH bringing Dyl down.

Weeing down already today, so don't know what fun thing to do with them today

Firstly, can I say at all your 'bad' sleepers. My postnatal thread is full of babies sleeping amazingly... so nice to find some normality (although obv I wish you all lovely nights tonight ). FWIW last night wasn't bad - baby ds slept (mostly with me) with a few wakings for food and dd came into us at about 1am (first week being back in her bed, been co-sleeping since birth of ds).

We had a lovely day yesterday - very low key, just out to toddler group, but really calm and happy. About a hundred people asked me where I got my sling as ds slept peacefully the whole time. Staying in today waitingfor parcel - but 'weeing' down here too. Dd already watching her first of many film of the day... Might try and do some cooking with her later, or attempt to tidy back room (though with dd's help will prob end up worse )

Chaotica - we had that with ds's birth. We've got everything we need! Like TattooedGrrrl's suggestion of a day out. Think dd got a little car thing - but you've prob got one already! These are highly coveted by dd (she plays on them in local toy shop) but we can't really afford!

Cazwa - How old are your dc? I am sure they will love sharing. We plan to do the same so will follow your efforts

Simpson - teething is a PITA, isn't it? Hope she feels better soon.

TattooedGrrl - I can see a random, cardboard box in the living room so will prob make a letterbox and give dd a load of stuff to post (takeaway leaflets, envelopes etc). The older one can draw/'write' letters and post them, younger kids can just post away!! Keeps her amused for ages.

Right, off to make more tea. Happy, calm days to you all!

Jewelsandgems · 09/09/2008 09:23

Welcome umlella and at 8 weeks surely it is mad hope for a baby that old to sleep through the night? DD1 [freya] was 12 weeks old when she started going through (7pm-6am) and DD2 [izzy] was 9 weeks initually but not consistantly until more like 6 months!

The post box idea sounds great! We also have a box, mmmm may try that!! Today though I am resigned to making play doh and taking Freya for her last baby jabs (I know, should have had them done ages ago but at least she is having them now) so need food colouring and maybe some cookie cutters?

Cazwa it is good news the sharing is going well. We are planning on putting the girls together when Izzy is 1 (or really anytime we stop the dreamfeed which is usually 9months) but currently I get up Izzy at 6, then Freya at 7 and this gives me an hour to wake up slowly I.E izzy guzzling milk on the floor next to me, me nibbling toast and drinking hot choc. But, with them both in same room, that hour will be gone! In it's place Freya running around getting all her toys out and generally being a 2 year old! Still, nothing can stay the same I guess

Grrrl if Dylan is only taking 2oz I myself would just knock it on the head because you may turn it into a habitual thing, not a food thing (habitual waking much harder to sort out)

Anyway girls, off to wake izzy again and get somemakeup on my face. What with being ill I have not fake tanned for a week! I mean, you can imagine how.....well normal.....I am looking!

xx

TattooedGrrrl · 09/09/2008 11:35

am dropping it to 1oz tonight, then nothing because he's still teething. But he settled himself once last night too. i reckon within a month or two he'll be sleeping through (fingers crossed!)

Got rid of our table and chairs today, and got new ones from Ikea. Hoping to have the kitchen revamped by end of October- painting the cupboard doors, putting new handles on, and getting a new cooker and dishwasher. Can't wait! I'm so sad i'm even excited about my new kettle

Both boys are sleeping, so nice and quiet! Off to blitz the lentil and veg soup i cooked anyway!

Evening Ladies

(Hang on... why am I smiling? DD just started yelling instead of sleeping and woke DS for half an hour, even though he's in a different room - Do I dare hope they're both back to sleep for the night? )

Nice birthday ideas. Thanks. Day out is a definite option (although I don't know where I'd take him which would be more exciting than looking at our bookshelf which he's fascinated by at the moment ). Or a ride-on thingmy might be just what is needed - he's too young for Freya's tricycle (although he likes to sit on it and be pushed along). Maybe he'd go for something like the ladybird...

Jewels, is that you? You look so... well, pale

Good luck with the sleeping tonight, Grrrl.

Umlellala - you sound like you're having a nice time with two which is great. (I found that DS started taking an interest in playgroup really quickly so that even though I was going to amuse DD, he got something out of it as well. Now he's (perhaps) the more sociable of the two of them.) Nice sling as well.

Cazwa - at Nice, although I'd miss the kids (I'm sad like that )

Chaotica · 09/09/2008 22:02

BTW, Grrrl - lovely kettle you have there

Cazwa · 09/09/2008 22:06

Hi Umlellala, my DC are 10mo and 2.1y. Last night was fine in the end, both up at 6ish.

Jewels, that is the drawback, the youngest is waking up first and waking DD up, whereas normally she gets up at 7am.

TattooedGrrrl · 10/09/2008 05:31

Here i am again at silly o'clock, up with George. He's having nightmares i think I got up 3 times to put him back in bed and tell him to go back to sleep- on the plus side, Dyl is asleep in his own bed still! And he only woke once, at 3am (He did stir at 2am, but settled himself) That 3 days of him not ending up in our bed in the early hours, and 2 mornings he's slept in past 5.30am, hoorah!

Mare of a day yesterday, George has stopped using his potty at all, but insists on going bare-bummed, then he pees where ever he is and tells us afterwards. I got really annoyed in the end, which i know doesn't help. I think we need to put him back in nappies for a few days and start fresh, with more patience and some stickers and smarties

Dyl is coming along great though- he had a good day with nice CM Monday- he drank all his milk, napped and ate far more lunch for her than he eats for me! She says bit by bit she can put him on the floor to play more too, rather than having to carry him so much. Giving the other one 3 wks notice this week, so soon he'll have more consistency. George uses the nice CMs toilet aswell, but doesn't use potty etc at all for other CM, come to think of it

Anyway, must stop waffling and drink some tea and wake up.

TattooedGrrrl · 10/09/2008 05:36

made a big hair decision aswell- going to have Posh Spice's new do, but blonde

Jewelsandgems · 10/09/2008 13:05

Firstly grrrl go for the 'pop'! I think it would look grrrreat on you !!

And I know how annoying potty training can be. Freya is always dry in the day but only 50% at night. We have started putting pullups back on her. It's like at night, she doesn't realise she can use her own potty but does it all the time on the day!

Well we are going away on saturday and god knows how much shit stuff we have to pack. I am on a wash-a-thon, and there are clothes draped around all available surfaces. Yes, we have a dryer but there is a massive daddy long legs on the shed door (where we keep the dryer) and there is NO WAY I am going near it. So, manual drying for now or if the drizzle stops, I'll start on the rotary line.

Bodybalance was ace last night, really good. Makes such a difference to my flexibility. Stamina is my problem though, we hold certain positions for 20 seconds at a time and I am usually one of the first to drop the pose oh well....

Made playdoh yesterday and Freya and I had a lovely afternoon playing with it, then I spent a long time sweeping and sweeping, and then hovering to make sure none of it was trodden into the new rug! Anyway, seems we got away with it

Hi all,

Sorry being a bit pants at keeping up ATM DD is teething terribly and I don't get a chance to put her down really unless I want full on screaming poor thing.

Ds was back at playgroup today although he has only got 2 weeks before he starts pre school.

Am planning Ds's party which is happening on Sat I really hope the weather is nice.

Jaysfinished - welcome Sounds like you have your hands full!!

Jewels - I know what you mean about washathon we are washing all the stuff after coming back from holiday, clothes EVERY WHERE

Grrrl - Good for you making hair decision!! I got hair cut in Ireland but not brave enough to do anything drastic!

Hi to everyone else!!!

justkeepswimming · 10/09/2008 17:31

hi newbies

jays - peeked at your pics, wow you make big babies!
and gorgeous ones too

ds1 (tom) is doing well atm, going to bed nicely, sleeping 7-6/6.30, not really napping after lunch anymore (tho he did 2hours at nursery today, even tho i've told them to wake him after an hour, sure he won't want to go down at 7 tonight!).
speech is really coming along, loads of new words, and what i find amazing, conversations! and following through on thoughts and ideas, i love it

ds2 (henry) is doing well and not so well really.
he self-settles for his naps at home/buggy/car seat beautifully, and for 2x2hrs which is lovely. he goes down at bedtime fine, then wakes once or twice a night just for a grizzle i think, doesn't want feeding, sometimes just a fresh muslin is enough.
8 teeth
sitting nicely, not rolling though.
19lbs11 yesterday at development check, so nearly ready for next car seat - and he is SO ready.

but....he has been refusing bf on and off since sunday today has been better but was worried for a while that he was giving up and i wasn't ready. hopefully he's over whatever it was.

right, sorry for not catching up properly, do read and run most days, but T watching Cars (again) and H was happy but now complaining so best go...

Chaotica · 10/09/2008 20:33

Hi All,

Just a quick post before I pack the DCs off to bed (DD is watching noddy and DS is crawling around the floor looking at all the toys and throwing them about). Feel like he needs the exercise before bed as they've spent 3 hrs in the car to meet up with my dad.

Amazingly, DD stayed dry all day and asked for the potty when she needed it in the car - but in case you think I'm free of potty training woes, she must have asked for the potty every five minutes [grrr] while she was at her grandad's... Tried to stay calm... Not as bad as your problems though, Grrrl.

beforesunrise · 10/09/2008 21:04

hi can i join this too? i have dd1 2y7m and dd2 4 months. dd1 is a great child, but very challenging and a terrible sleeper. dd2 is the sweetest thing alive. i have my moments but while i love my dds to bits i cannot wait to outgrow this phase! i am not coping that well (see my other post)... hopefully this thread will help me stay sane! thanks in advance

diddle · 10/09/2008 21:37

chaotica - i have the same problme, ds2 is 1 in 3 weeks and we have a house full of boys stuff already from DS1 have baby walker, swing, slide. not much else we need, but feel we have to get him something similar in value so he's not deprived! so hard to decide.

wish i had more time to come on here and get support from you lot. feeling totally drained, ds2 waking up at least twice a night, nomrally needing a cuddle, or winding and then a milk feed settles him the 2nd time. but i really want him to stop needing it. I wonder if i left him to cry for 10 mins if he'd send himself back off but don't want him to wake ds1!

jewelsandgems - you sound just like me with the daddylonglegs, found msyelf ducking in the bathroom last week so i wasn't attacked by one. you should try hurling all shoes at t, in the hope to get it. i couldn't live without my dryer.

jaysfinished - welcome and congrats on coping with 3 under 3. that'll be me in 7 months time.

simpson · 10/09/2008 22:48

Diddle - how old is your DS1? Hope you are coping with morning sickness ok? I would quite anlike another LO but being pg does put me off

Beforesunrise - Hope things get better soon and welcome You have the same age gap between your Dcs as me.

Chaotica · 11/09/2008 00:23

Hi Diddle, beforesunrise, jaysfinished and welcome and evening again to everyone else.

Did I invoke the MN curse earlier? Freya has been waking (or just not sleeping and crying) every 10 mins for the potty and has only just gone to sleep (we hope). She's normally such a strong sleeper, but it's as if she can't bear to use a nappy at night (or if she's at all aware of it) - which is good (right?) but a real pain as I don't intend to take her out of night nappies yet. And she wakes DS up, so that leaves me and DP without much of an evening to ourselves.

Given what happening with 2, how do some of you manage with 3 under 3?

Jewels - you're letting a daddylonglegs come between you and your drier?? Can't you get Freya to move it for you? (After all, you don't want to pass your phobias on... )

Damn! My aunt had a very fine toy today which DS loved (a kind of ride-on car transporter, complete with cars) and I'd love to get him one for his birthday... But it turns out it's about 14 years old (so they probably don't make them any more) - I will search (and hope that Jewels' shopping vibes are with me ).

TattooedGrrrl · 11/09/2008 06:14

Hi Diddle and Beforesunrise

DS2 slept great again last night, woke around 3am, but DS1 is being a mare at the moment. I hope it's just a phase, but he's waking in the night, and then getting up before 5am and refusing to go back to sleep. Yesterday i was up at 4.40am with him, 4.30am today

Still, it WILL pass, and Dylan is sleeping so much better, must look on the bright side.

Work today until 2pm, then haircut! Yay! Also, sacking the CM today- not looking forward to that, but needs must etc.

Hope everyone had a good sleep and has a good day today.
