How do I create an MSN account for my 8yr old daughter that I can oversee (short of standing behind her etc)

Up until now she's been using mine but I want it back and she's driving me up the wall! She needs her own space but at the same time I want to be able to see who she's contacting etc i.e. protect her. Is there a way of doing this?

Well there is a way of saving all her conversations, think it gives you the option when you first use the account and come out of the conversation window.

No way would I let an 8 yr-old on msn at all tbh, let alone have her own account.

I don't think I'm scared of her using msn - I see it just like the telephone. I don't stop her rushing to answer the phone and nor do I stop her phoning people but I do check who it is and of course monitor it. I know there's a way of setting up msn so that anyone wanting to make contact to with her has to go through my account and equally I can watch who she contacts as well. Its just that I'm being lazy and hoped someone could tell me how to set it up like that.

Hi there. To see what she is doing, go to the 'Tools', then to 'options'. Then go to 'Messages' and there is a box to tick to save message history.To view it go to 'File' Then to 'View message history'. If I were you I would check it on a regular basis as messages can be deleted if she figues out how. I learned all my PC skills from when I was a kid, lol.

That's OK, but just wanted to say, please don;t underestimate what she may do online, including MSN, I was an angel as a child, even a teenager but got up to allsorts online that I would go mental about now if I saw my kids doing the same.

Trust me I wouldn't underestimate my dd1 EVER. She's me - so I'd be a fool if I did. But thanks none the less! The computer that I want her to use is in the family room where you are pretty much only guaranteed privacey at about 4.00 in the morning and I'd know if one of them where up as we live in a bungalow and my bedroom is right next to it. I don't want to come across as complacent about the internet, just that in the same way that at some point I'm going to have to let her cross a road on her own and I'm going to have to start to let her have access to chatting to friends online. I treat it with caution and am aware of the potential issues and will not ever allow a computer in her room with internet access. Hope that alys your fears a little.
