what does this national curriculum level mean?

have just got ds's report card and the teacher has written him a good report but

at the end of his reading he has got
"national curriculum reading level 1a"
"national curriculum writing level 1b"

and at the end of mathematics he has got
"national curriculum level 2c"

he is 6 yo 7 at the end of november and will be starting year 2 in september

is this good? what does it mean i have googled it but cant really find much that makes any sense to me

please help

From what I remember (long time ago now) the expected level is 2b at the end of Year 2, so it sounds like he is heading in the right direction with a year to go. His next step up would be a 2c in reading and a 1a in writing and then a 2c, if you see what I mean. Sounds like he's doing just fine.
