Would it be right to send my ds to playscheme even though he has said he does not want to go

I don,t have a problem with daycare in the 6 weeks holiday for my ds aged 7 as I am around in the day.
However I do work 2 nightshifts 9 till 730am which are very tiring and hard work.
I work every wednesday and thursday night and I figure that it would be best if my ds went on a playscheme every thursday and friday to enable me to get rest as I am usally really tired after doing these shifts.
Although I have managed before with my ds just sitting watching telly all day while I doze on the sofa he still disturbs me quite a bit and I end up not getting proper rest.
I would just send him from 9.30am until 3.30pm would it make me a terrible mother to send him even though he does not want to go.
I mean I know he would probably enjoy it once there and it has to be better than sitting with a tired mother all day.
What do you think would it be downright nasty to send him anyway is it really appropriate to send him to one of these when I am actually at home.
I would be thinking of myself and his needs also.
Any tips on getting him more geared up for it and to look forward to it instead.

he will probably love playscheme when he gets there and is just nervous about not knowing anyone there.

I think in your case that needs must. Have you had a look around at other play schemes. There are quite a few different play schemes in our area that do the hours 9.30 to 3.30pm.

If he was given a choice of playschemes then it would not feel so bad for him.

Yes he should go. Would it be possible to find out if any friends from school are going? If they are maybe that would make him feel a bit better.

I think he should go - it will do him good to realise that he cant have it all his own way - anyway he will probably have fun - if it was a school day then he would have to go, so tell him it is no different.

DD went to one last year when I was off on mat leave - mainly to stop her getting bored being at home for 6 weeks - she went for 3 days of one week and had a ball. I did bargain with her and agree to pick her up at 3 on the last day rather than 4.30, which suited her fine. She is off there this hols for 4 days - it is unsettling for them to go somewhere new where they dont know anyone, but the staff will usually get them involved in stuff and they will be begging to go back! The worst that will happen is that he will go one week and refuse to go the other weeks - but at least you will have tried!
