have tonnes of Bambino Mio as they were all i could buy where we lived before and although they were fine for dd they didn't work at all for ds.

ended up buying a fairly mixed lot of nappies, think the most of one type i have is about 6.

am preg with dc3 and as ds will barely be potty trained (if at all) and will still need the bigger size nappies and the only small ones i have are BM am contemplating buying a whole new set of smaller size nappies.

have harmonies, bumbles, diddy diapers, popolini and motherease one sizes, bamboozles and something else that's bamboo in the ones i have for ds and i'm not in love with any of them.

harmonies i did love but 3 out of 6 have lost all their leg elastic in only a year of use and are practically useless now

based on nappies you've tried which would you definitely buy again and which would you steer clear of?

ack, motherease wraps left red marks from the binding.

PinkTulips · 16/07/2008 23:12

they do if they're too tight..... they need to be a bit looser at the legs and waist than you'd think.

they still contain anything baby does in them but don't mark.

How do liners work, do they attach onto the nappy at the gusset? And what is the reason for the fleece, is it because it's more absorbent or just because it feels nice?

ilovemydog · 17/07/2008 14:37

liners are really just a barrier between poo and nappy.

It's like a paper towel that lies on nappy (or booster). Unless you have pre-folds, that is (like Bambino Mio) and it wraps around.

i've fallen out of the habit of using liners... closest place i can buy them is 2 hours away and i can't go to nappy sites and just order liners

must pick up tonnes when i order these nappies so i won't run out for ages

fleece are a pain in the ass tbh, most of the paper ones are stay dry to a certain extent and the fleece is impossible to scrap the poo offf.

good idea using both kyte, does it not get a bit faffy round nappy changes though with all those layers?

I bit the bullet and bought some Sandy's off ebay, they came with a Rikki wrap. What else will I need? Do I need to get liners as well? I was thinking disposable liners so I could flush it? But I've not seen any of those, I've seen liners that look like pads, are these the only type?

PinkTulips · 17/07/2008 22:53

i know the nappy lady definitely sells disposable liners... they come in big rolls.

give me a few minutes to find a link for you, my internet is very slow as usual.

have you got a bucket of some kind to put them in while you wait for the wash... you can buy nappy buckets but tbh a cheap bucket from the pound shop does exactly the same job.

how many did you get? c'mon, details woman!

Waitrose do paper liners on a roll if you have one nearby, but they are thick and absorbant and I found they stayed wet next to dd's skin - the thin Junior Joy ones were better. I stopped bothering with liners at all pretty fast though as bf poo just squirted round the edges - the fleece inners of Bimbles don't stain so I just chucked them straight in the bucket and did a rinse to get rid of the worst before washing.

Now dd's on solids her poos do ping off the fleece as promised and tis v easy.

If I could have my time again I would still use prefolds they have worked really well for us.
we ditched the bambino mio wraps early on and used prowraps.
brilliant.

PinkTulips · 17/07/2008 23:38

liners like Mrsbadger said though don't bother for newborn poo... they create more mess than anything. handy though when the poo solidifies when they're older.

used BM on dd and they were fine but omg.... so did not work on ds's tubby behind

Pinktulips - I got four Sandy's and a wrap for £22 which included the postage, the advert said they had been used a couple of times but to me they look brand new and feel very soft, so I'm really happy with them! I got a little excited and had a practice putting them on a teddy!

One thing I did wonder, the liner goes next to their skin doesn't it, not between the nappy and the wrap, so how does it stay in place? I was expecting something to attach it to but there are no poppers.

Thanks everyone for your advice so far, I feel the addiction starting .... now I just need the baby, otherwise people will be wondering why all the teddy bears are wearing nappies!!

cotton nappies tend to be much more in contact with the baby's skin than a disposable would be so the liner is kept in place because it's squeezed in betwen skin and cloth
