have tonnes of Bambino Mio as they were all i could buy where we lived before and although they were fine for dd they didn't work at all for ds.

ended up buying a fairly mixed lot of nappies, think the most of one type i have is about 6.

am preg with dc3 and as ds will barely be potty trained (if at all) and will still need the bigger size nappies and the only small ones i have are BM am contemplating buying a whole new set of smaller size nappies.

have harmonies, bumbles, diddy diapers, popolini and motherease one sizes, bamboozles and something else that's bamboo in the ones i have for ds and i'm not in love with any of them.

harmonies i did love but 3 out of 6 have lost all their leg elastic in only a year of use and are practically useless now

based on nappies you've tried which would you definitely buy again and which would you steer clear of?

or you can wash with those soapnut thingies. I have some rattling around my laundry bits and pieces - wasn't impressed

Anglepoise · 15/07/2008 15:36

We have the soapnut things - DH is very fond of them and never uses anything else for his clothes; hoping to use them for DC's clothes to avoid using chemicals, but not sure whether they will cope with nappies!

Forgot to add that my £100 of nappies will hopefully do more than one child, so total bargain (providing I manage to avoid getting too badly addicted! ).

Here is a comparison of the costs of both. money saving expert

FWIW, I didn't get on with my 2 pocket bots. Leaked no matter what I stuffed them with.

anglepoise - quite a few poeple successfully use them on their nappies. They didn't work for us, but then we are a grubby lot

BigBadMousey · 15/07/2008 15:46

Liz79 then send them this way!!

Anglepoise · 15/07/2008 15:47

Ooh, that's interesting BBM - guess we might as well give it a go, if only to find out how grubby we are

Liz79 · 15/07/2008 15:49

BBM - sending back for refund!

LackaDAISYcal · 15/07/2008 16:01

do pocket bots have the opening for the stuffing in the middle of the gusset by any chance?

I have a mystery teeny tiny pocket nappy which is seaspray colour with cream fleece lining, poppers at the side, but there is no label/name on it. It is really nice on a newborn, and I wouldn't mind a few more but I've no idea what make it is.

anyone, since the MN reuseables collective all seem to be in the one place.

teafortwo · 15/07/2008 16:05

Motherease Sandy are perfect!

Buy xs then later m then later again pull up pants!

Great stuff!

allytjd · 15/07/2008 16:05

I found that my kids potty trained earlier than my friends kids who were in disposables, so that is a futther saving!

BigBadMousey · 15/07/2008 16:14

Lacks - yes that sounds very much like a version 2 pocket bot. The version three has the opening at the back again and an insert gripper to hold the insert in place and keep the pul away from the skin - tis v good.

BigBadMousey · 15/07/2008 16:16

V3 here - the V2 didn't have the diagonal poppers like the V3 IIRC.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 15/07/2008 16:18

I think DS was fairly average for when he potty trained, but he was very quick at it- he knew when he was wet, basically.

LackaDAISYcal · 15/07/2008 16:28

thanks for that BBM. the poppers are straight iirc.

lollipopmother · 15/07/2008 16:38

Daisy - God no, nothing to do with Lollipop nappies, don't think I could be further from it at this moment in time!!

Thank God the 12 nappies doesn't last too long!

PinkTulips · 15/07/2008 17:37

soapnuts don't cope with our washing very well at all.

tried them on nappies and the smell was awful.

used them on the normal laundry for a bit longer but they just don't get stains out and my kids are filthy little creatures

Wraps make or break a nappy IMO. I like MEOS, Sandies, Baby Beehinds and prefolds as far as nappies go but here is the giant list of wraps we have tried:

PUL
ME Airflow: Bad fit on skinny minny DD. Exposed PUL gave her a rash.
ME Rikki: Better fit but still rash.
Nature Baby Multiwrap & Classic Wrap: Fit ok, horrible welty rash around legs.
Bummis Super Whisper: Works great, fits well, very boring prints.
Imse Vimse Organic Cotton: Probably my favorite. Decent fit, very comfortable, no leaks, no rash. Not that cute though.
Baby Beehinds PUL: Fit not great--short in the rise AND too big around but works well and seems comfortable.

Wool
Baby Beehinds Wool: Better fit somehow, looks comfortable and really works.
SAHM Wool pull-on soaker: Loooovely. No rash, no red marks. Would use exclusively if they weren't so bloody expensive and hard to get hold of.
Disana wool soaker: Best ever for overnight. No rash and no leaks ever. DD requests it at every opportunity.

For my imminent newborn I've got prefolds, bummis, cot'n wraps and wool. Trying to keep it simple this time!

PinkTulips · 15/07/2008 20:31

yep, wool wraps were the first thing on the list for dc3

i love the popolini ones that are shaped like ME airflow at the minute, not had great luck with disana soakers as they grew out of them so damn quickly and woolywraps disintegrate when my kids pee touches them ( too much juice in their diet perhaps)

Ooh, I am enjoying this thread, as I need to buy some newborn nappies & wraps for dt's. Praps if you want cute, PT, you should be looking at the wraps rather than nappies if two parters?

Wraps I have tried:

Weenotions (in giraffe) - perfect except there's no elastic in waist so even XL doesn't fit ds2 now. I would def. buy again though.

Nature babies classic - don't fit well over everything & leave red marks on ds2 also who is chunky legged. I liked them v.much when he was under 1 though and good choice of patterns/colours

Lovebums - these are great night wraps, totally bomb proof and leave no marks, love them although I have never tried wool.

Totswraps - absolutely rubbish, feel really plasticky, don't fit well at all, got rid of immediately

LackaDAISYcal · 15/07/2008 21:24

aq, the new tots wraps are lovely (the ones without leg gussets)....nice and soft and seem pretty leak proof so far, even overnight with a flexitots nappy

LackaDAISYcal · 15/07/2008 21:27

I've never had the courage to try wool. Tried fleece once, but it wasn't a successful move. tend to just use dispos overnight now

needaholiday · 16/07/2008 01:54

diving in here as have cloth bummed from birth on three babes. Used a selection on baby number one from bimbles to huggles and didn't have huge problems with them but for numbers 2 and 3 were using little kiwi quick flips. They're really easy too as no need for different night or day nappies. Just 2 sizes though, big babies didn't need mini ones sadly- they are too cute. And now the littlekiwi site has got full sets of nappies for not a lot of money and if youre tempted have a squizz at nappyelite- thats the wahm arm of littlekiwi but be warned you may be a bit like a kid in a candy store in there. we've never got on with pockets, prefer the extra barrier of the wrap and the nappy.

lollipopmother · 16/07/2008 09:49

Silly question coming up!

Do all nappies need a wrap (I assume not??). I like the patterns on the Motherease ones, is that a good enough reason to buy a specific nappy/wrap?

LackaDAISYcal · 16/07/2008 10:30

two part systems are usually an absorbent shaped, flat or prefold nappy (in whatever material, bamboo cotton, hemp, microfibre), with a wrap over the top. ME are nice, but totsbots, nature babies, wee notions etc have much funkier prints on them.

then there are pocket nappies that have a waterproof outer and fleece/suedecloth inner with a pocket for stuffing with the absorbent part (be that shaped inserts, pad folded terry, prefold, microfibre cloth etc). These don't need a wrap.

than there are all in ones which as the name suggests comprise waterproof outer and absorbent inner. they take ages to dry but can be convenient for parents, babysitters etc as they are most like a disposable. don't get kushies though...they are truly awful and about as much use with newborn baby poo as a chocolate teapot!

and there is also the newer up and coming snap in all in ones, which are like the all in one, but the absorbant part has poppers so can be removed for washing and drying. these tend to be the most expensive systems around, but they are very reliable and are quick drying.

I'm sure there are some other options available whcih someone else will know about.

hope that helps

PinkTulips · 16/07/2008 11:21

the motherease wraps are fairly fantastic though so if you like them they're a very good choice. they're roomy enough for even the most overstuffed night nappy, very adjustable and don't leave marks. and i don't think i've ever had a leak even with 2 kids prone to food intolerances which cause realy runny poo.

i have one wee notions AIO but it's never worked for either kid tbh, leaks from the first pee every time. shame too as it's gorgeous and both kids love it but i've given up on it.
