have tonnes of Bambino Mio as they were all i could buy where we lived before and although they were fine for dd they didn't work at all for ds.

ended up buying a fairly mixed lot of nappies, think the most of one type i have is about 6.

am preg with dc3 and as ds will barely be potty trained (if at all) and will still need the bigger size nappies and the only small ones i have are BM am contemplating buying a whole new set of smaller size nappies.

have harmonies, bumbles, diddy diapers, popolini and motherease one sizes, bamboozles and something else that's bamboo in the ones i have for ds and i'm not in love with any of them.

harmonies i did love but 3 out of 6 have lost all their leg elastic in only a year of use and are practically useless now

based on nappies you've tried which would you definitely buy again and which would you steer clear of?

I really like the baby beehinds nappies (I have 2 hemp and 2 bamboo.) but I am not experienced in these matters. (DD only 4 weeks)

Amphibimum · 14/07/2008 22:30

Amphibimum · 14/07/2008 22:31

Beehinds are defintely WAYYYYYY to low in the rise to be a btp - such a shame as they are good design in principle.

I want some bamboo sandy's but not found any second hand yet - no one wants to part with them so they must be good!

PinkTulips · 14/07/2008 22:54

right so my try and see list so far is;

sandies (poss bamboo)
fuzzi bunz/bumgenius/wonderoos to try pockets (vote now please)
swaddlebees velour
kiwi quick flip
bimbles

dp is going to regret his decision when he sees the length of the finished list, lol

I found swaddlebees to be very leaky, got rid of mine. Don't fit all babies I think from reading elsewhere on here. So cute though, pity. Kissaluvs?

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 14/07/2008 23:09

Can I say what I wouldn't buy again? I spent a small fortune on Kushies aio's and they don't have elastic in the waist so don't fit well. they were leaky and heavy and are now sitting in a couple of bin bags in the airing cupboard waiting for me to be arsed to sell them.

I would now go for a different system with wraps.

And ouch at 'nippa'd balls'

PinkTulips · 14/07/2008 23:43

Both me and my sister have found Fuzzibunz leak on our newborns... but now her DS is on solids she wishes she'd got more because they're great. Maybe that's why there are such mixed reports about pocket nappies - question of timing?

PInkyminkyohnooo · 15/07/2008 00:18

I have found the size 1 totsbots fab for a baby once they get past 8lb, then you only need two sizes- move up to size 2, and that's it. I love the diddy diapers for newborns, too.
I have diddy diapers
totsbots
ellas house
kissaluvs
kiwis
for my newborn nappies,
My favourite wraps are the motherease popper wraps.
A variety is good, because you don't know what the new baby will be like- DS was over 8lb and very 'straight' as a newborn, but not chubby. DD was dinky but rolypoly and all curled up!So their nappy requirements were quite different.

I manily have totsbots butI'm getting more ellas house as I really like them.

isaidno · 15/07/2008 06:58

I like my ella's house too - great at night.
My nappacino lady told me swaddlebees were no good for boys, so you might be able to try them if you have a girl.

Lionstar · 15/07/2008 11:07

We found Swaddlebees no good for girls either, leaked every time. Having said that we do have a couple of the swaddlebees pockets that don't have the waterproof layer so need a wrap. Now those I do get on with as they are nice and slim (though a bit faffier than normal pockets I suppose). I liked them because it meant having a natural fabric against DD skin, which is partly why I like the Bambinex too.

PinkTulips · 15/07/2008 11:34

ok, so kissaluvs are beating swaddlebees.

still not sure which pockets to try though and they're so expensive i really have to pick just one i think.

This thread scares the poop out of me! I really want to try reusables (baby due start of Sept) but
A. I don't understand a word you've all written!

B. It looks like it must be so much more expensive than disposables, what with all the trying and not liking etc etc? Opinions?

PinkTulips · 15/07/2008 13:20

it's still cheaper than disposables by a long shot lollipop, a baby goes through about 12 nappies a day in the first few months and has cut down to maybe 6/8 a day by a year.... work out how many disposables tha is and how much they'd cost you.

and you'll find with disposables that some won't work for your baby as well, dd was too tiny for cotton for 5 weeks and i must have tried 10 brands of disposables and had probs with most.

type the names we've used into google with cloth nappy (ie swaddlebees cloth nappy, fuzzi bunz clth nappy) and you'll get a loads of pages from cloth nappy sites that give pics, reviews and prices.

it is best for a first baby to buy a selection of a few types and try them in the first fewweeks and then buy a whole set of whichever you prefer, babies are built differantly, nappies that suited my dd didn't work for ds at all and vice versa.

don't be scared, most of us find problems with the ones we have as an excuse to buy more, it's an adiction

BigBadMousey · 15/07/2008 13:23

lollipopmother - don't be scared. We are all huge cloth nappy fans on this thread and that tends to lead to trying a few more out than is really necessary .

Its all very simple you just find a cloth nappy trial service in your area and once your baby is born you try them out for a minimal fee and choose what you like best. here..... I've done the first bit for you - they offer a good range to try out.

It is cheaper than disposables (even more so if you use reusable wipes - bought ones are £££££££s). I tend to buy second hand if I'm trying something new then sell on if we don't get on with it but that isn't necessary if you use a trial kit and don't want to be buying and selling all the time - it's just that some of us enjoy all that .

Theres more local info if you click here.

BigBadMousey · 15/07/2008 13:25

pinktulips kissiluvs are quite low rise - not good for a long one .

PinkTulips · 15/07/2008 13:37

BBM, i always forget you have those trial services over there

am getting annoyed now, if i can't have kissaluvs and i can't have swaddlebees, can i have any pretty coloured nappies?!

OP posts:
lollipopmother · 15/07/2008 13:42

Mousey - Thank you! I am definitely going to use the Lollipop nappy lady that you suggested.

I have to admit that I don't even know the price of a bag of disposable nappies, but the Council website says I could save nearly £600 using reusables and I do know how much that is!!

BigBadMousey · 15/07/2008 13:43

funky enough for you???? I love these - never leaked for us, might work for you too....

lollipopmother · 15/07/2008 13:46

I'm loving the festive Santa ones on that link, I'm always falling for the gimicks!
