Does anyone else ALWAYS change nappies when baby is standing up?

I'm just surprised to read that some posters' babies are 18 months old and they are still lying down for nappy changes!
My DS is 14 months old but we have had to change his nappy standing up for MONTHS now, as he just won't lie down and lie still! He's not walking yet, so we have to stand him up against something.
Is this usual?

Nope I do it all the time... apart from poos.

Gateau · 08/07/2008 13:54

I've even done poo-changes standing. It's so much easier when they're ready to co-operate, especially if you're out and about. Though 20m ds2 is such an unco-operative livewire that it's sometimes easier to pin him down and change him horizontally - at least the wiping bit.

I'm glad there are others! Have been changing dd standing up style for months and thought it was the norm till met up with anti-ntal group the other day. Was made to feel "odd"

Now use pull up's as you don't have to struggle to do nappy tabs up then. Do poo's standing up as well, just have to be careful of not spilling the nuggets

Gateau · 08/07/2008 15:07

LOL biscuit at the nuggets...
You should see the state of our carpet - or maybe you shouldn't...

Yes, pull-ups are FAB... We've just cottoned on to them too.

no - pull ups are expensive. also standing up means it is easier for him to run away.

PrettyCandles · 08/07/2008 18:45

I changed dd's pooey nappies standing up.

It's a matter of co-operation by the baby.

PrettyCandles · 08/07/2008 18:46

'Course I meant that she was standing up .

skippythedogfromthesea · 08/07/2008 22:27

Always did it lying down - ds was bribe-able with a fave toy that I kept for him as a special nappy changing toy.

LittleMyDancing · 08/07/2008 22:29

Ds won't lie down for love nor money - we've been standing up kids for over a year now.

Sigh....

LilRedWG · 08/07/2008 22:29

DD 26 months is still lying down - she's faaarrrrr to lazy to stand for the job.
