God yes

its madness really

I worked from home last friday, for 4 hours with a 4 year old so I could attend his "pre school leavers bbq" - I won't even bloody eat anything but I felt all hormonal about him being there with no family member

claricebeansmum · 08/07/2008 12:21

Yup - in trying to be at a sports day and swimming gala at the same time I missed all the relevant races

I also am so overwhelmed I left somebodies child behind the other day.

Too too much

Oh I wholeheartedly agree.

The guilt I feel is ridiculous. I cant go to everything.

There was never this much going on when I was at school. Did parents come to sports day?

Count me in !
(Although all this was a couple of weeks ago because school is already out here - NOT good!)

Collision · 08/07/2008 12:24

I am on the school association and agree it is all too much

sports day
African Art Exhibition
School Fete
Parent Evening
African Assembly
superstar assembly
ds2 to visit new nursery at school
lost property day
2nd hand uniform sale

so we cancelled a cinema afternoon for next week and will do it in Sept. I dont know how working Mums do it as I am not working atm.

mumblechum · 08/07/2008 12:24

It's good when they go to secondary and parents aren't expected to go. Also only one parents eve per year (thank Christ, one character assassination pa is q. enough thank you)

claricebeansmum · 08/07/2008 12:26

"lost property day"

This is an event????

lilyloo · 08/07/2008 12:26

Was glad ds sports day rained off yesterday as at same time as dd swimming lesson and she was getting her badge.

normally I'd be agreeing with you but this year we've only got 1 sports day....weird

stealthsquiggle · 08/07/2008 12:31

lost property day sounds like an interesting event - public humiliation of parents, maybe, by holding up each unamed item and daring them to come and claim it?

I missed DD's nursery parents event thingy last week - it was just the final straw and I decided I can talk to her keyworker/nursery manager some other time. She is also the only under 2 going on their nursery trip without an accompanying parent - I understand why they can't do it without parent helpers but I just can't.

annh · 08/07/2008 12:33

God, I have just had this exact same conversation with our neighbout (stay at home dad) and we agreed that it's just completely MAD! We desperately need to have a wasp's nest treated at home but I could not find a single morning or afternoon this week which was not punctuated by district sports (twice!), open evenings, last swimming lesson - parents invited etc etc. Neighbour cannot help by having the keys for a morning/afternoon as he has similar problems with assemblies, volunteering in school etc. And my dh wonders why I never seem to get anything done! OK, rant over ...

avenanap · 08/07/2008 12:34

ds's summer term only lasted 8 weeks. I've had to go to :

Swimming gala (ds walked across the bottom of the pool as it was too shallow)
School play (I spent 6 days making costumes for them and I had to BUY my own ticket ]
Summer fete
music concert
sports day
parents evening
leaving ceremony (for the year 6's, ds was ignored as he's year 5 and leaving to go to another school, as were all the other children who were leaving before yr 6, although the yr6's were given cups/books/jumpers/certificates...)

There was also a parents ball that I avoided like the plague, a class party, a school party, a school trip.

The last term was a bit of a waste of his fees IMO, and a waste of 70 hours of my life that I'll never get back.

sandyballs · 08/07/2008 12:35

Glad I'm not the only one suffering with this sort of school overload. They do cram far too much in this last fortnight of term. I'm working today so I can see the 'Queen Bee' play tomorrow, Friday I'm helping out on a trip to Worthing. Next week is sports day, pta meeting and playscheme meeting. Madness. Can't wait for the holidays. Kids are knackered as well, such a job to get them out of bed in the mornings and they're only 7.

TheProvincialLady · 08/07/2008 12:48

My DS isn't even at school yet and I am fecked off with it. DH is a primary school teacher and the last couple of weeks have been a nightmare of extra work. Some of the stinky horrors will be wearing MY CLOTHES today in their school play because no one could be arsed to sort out their costumes (that's the children BTW, not the parents).
