Need an excuse to get out of work night out!

Hi, I have been invited to a work night out in a few weeks out but I really cannot be arsed don't think I will go. The main reason is that it will be a sorry reminder that my mat leave is quickly coming to an end (I go back in October which might seem an age away but it's not to me!) and I can't bear the thought of work chat and having to travel all the way into town and spend lots of money for that privilage. I already said to my boss I could go but I am thinking of pulling an excuse out the bag now, one that can be made in advance though as I think it'd be a bit rude to pull out at the very last minute.

I really can't bear the thought of going back to work or even thinking about it. I am having the 'back to work' chat next week so I will catch up with colleagues then. The night out is for 2 colleagues who are leaving but I'm not even that close to them anyway.

Any ideas?

I was the same on my maternity leave last time. I didn't want anything to do with work, especially in the last few weeks and months.

My last two or three weeks of maternity leave were spent just worrying about how awful it was going to be to go back and leaving my beautiful son.

When I went back to work, I hated it so much that I was determined to go on an economy drive so I could give up work. I started making cheap sandwiches on a Sunday for the entire week and freezing them. Lasted a good four weeks with the weird frozen sandwiches and then work got a bit easier - that was two years ago.

You should go. It's only one night. Arrive late, stay for a couple of drinks and then sneak off. At least you'll have done it. You might even enjoy it - a chance to speak to adults about non-baby stuff!
