Pocket money

We are considering giving the children some pocket money each week for doing 1-2 jobs a day in the home. I was thinking something like sweeping the floor after tea and folding their quilts back to air their beds. They are 7.3 and 4.11 and I was going to give them £1 a week to put in a pot to save up for something decent. My lot would spend it on a pencil a week otherwise.
Thoughts?

DS is 4.6 and we are thinking of giving him pocket money from September (when he is at school full time). Probably £1 a week.

I think we will try explaining to him that he can save up or can spend it as he gets it and hopefully teach him about saving up for things.
