Toddler diet advice

Hi
I desperately need help from all parents with toddlers!!
My youngest son and my grandson aged 16 months old, will be visiting us for a few days. I am no longer familiar with what a toddler's diet looks like as my youngest son is now 38. I have asked my DIL what my grandson eats and she has come back with Greek yoghurt, fruit, cheese, peas, sweetcorn, full fat milk, water to drink. She has said he pretty much eats what they eat. I would be very grateful if anyone could give me some ideas as I really am a bit clueless and really want to get things right. I'm aware that we need to watch his sugar and salt intake. What snacks do babies have if any? I am really concerned about breakfast.
In our day it was ready brek and turkey twizzlers ( only joking 🙃😆) Any advice would be gratefully received x
PS his mum is not visiting on this occasion and I desperately want to get things right!!!

I’d just buy in what your DIL has listed, assume they are favourites. I’d check what sort of cheese and how to present any fruit.
Other than that, your son will be there to feed him or advise if needed.

Hi OP, my little girl is 17months and like your DIL said eats more or less what we do. Breakfast she has normal
porridge oats cooked with milk and some frozen fruit mixed in, or egg and toast. Lunch usually soup, jacket potato with beans and cheese, cheese or tuna sandwiches. Tea is standard family meals, spaghetti bolognese, curry, roast dinner, tuna pasta, fish pie. I don’t add chillies to stuff but she’ll eat stuff with ginger, garam masala, and I don’t add much salt. Anything I can cut into smallish pieces is grand! Maybe run a few suggestions past your son but worst case scenario I find toast, eggs, beans, fruit are good backups. Snacks if needed oatcakes, breadsticks, fruit, toast, cheese (I am not very imaginative!). Enjoy your visit!

Oh and peas, sweetcorn and carrots do a lot of the heavy lifting veg wise for us, although she’s happy to eat all sorts with gravy or sauce of some sort on

Thanks to everyone for the excellent suggestions, very much appreciated. I believe I may be over thinking things a little. I am so looking forward to the visit. I haven't seen my grandson, in person, for 6 months. I am so grateful to my DIL, she is such a lovely person and fantastic mother, we are so lucky to have such a kind and considrate DIL. I would hate to inadvertently do something wrong. Thank you all again 🙏 ❤️ xx

Snacks can mainly be fruit, cheese and crackers, breadsticks, yoghurt etc. Breakfast for us is porridge, weetabix or multigrain cereal, or eggs and toast. Sandwiches, beans on toast, scrambled eggs, wraps or bagels eg Philadelphia and ham, or chicken/tuna for lunch with cucumber pepper or carrot sticks. Evening meal is whatever we are having but he prefers pasta and would have chicken nuggets if we are having something like a take away he wouldnt eat. Dont add salt to your cooking and try and avoid too much processed sugar in snacks etc but honestly when mine is at grandparents he loves being a bit spoiled with biscuits and ice lollies and we allow it because its fun for them and also a bit of a holiday

Basically anything that isn’t a choking hazard and can be held with a little hand.

I would buy what she has suggested and make sure meals are toddler friendly (basically just not too spicy, or too ‘acquired’).

I would also buy a few boxes of Organix snacks as they’re handy for peckish moments.

Enjoy the visit!

@Linnende definitely overthinking but I think that’s nice to be so thoughtful! As per a PP my two always have more treats at granny’s and I never mind because that’s what grannies are for. Sure you’ll all have a blast
