Pre weaning feeding advice - on Demand

Hi First time Mum to he best little almost 5 months old. I am wondering Did you manage to continue feeding on Demand. Little one has always eaten well and slept well. We have been feeding on Demand every 2-3 hours during the day since about 8 weeks he sleeps 7-7 with no night time feeds.Over the last couple of weeks he has become so much more interested in what's going on around him that he is happy and content for 3-4 hours between feeds. I was expecting this as the health visitor had mentioned to expect this. However he isnt Finishing a bottle (not a teat size issue hes just had enough) and by the time he gets to bed time hes well under what he usually takes in a day and finally realises hes hungry so then takes 2 feeds back to back. The issue is that by this point he is hungry and overtired that he cant decide which he wants and and gets really worked up and upset. I cant even squeeze in more at the other feeds or additional feeds as if hes not hungry he just wont eat. I know the NHS guidance is 6 months for weaning but wondered if hed benefit from a Baby porridge/rice.

Anyone experienced anything similar or have experiences that may help.

Much appreciated

I bf mine but I would offer more feeds in the day, try and give one after 2 hours rather than wait until he asks for one. I often fed mine before they were hungry if it was more convenient for example if we were going out I’d feed before we left the house.
Id wait for the weaning until 6 months.

I'd keep doing what you are doing and wait til 6 months to start weaning.

My ds (18 months) still wants 2 cups of milk before bed, he eats well during the day, but I think he must be thirsty/like the comfort. Nothing wrong with it. He was the same as yours around 4/5 months old, I was just glad that he wanted the extra feed before bed and not in the middle of the night!

Don't start weaning early. He needs to be six months plus all the signs of readiness. Wanting a big bedtime feed is not a reason to wean early.
