Dh using the lounge tv for gaming

We have a 10 year old who stays up until 9 on school nights and 10 weekends.
She likes to sit with us in the evening but Dh used the lounge tv for gaming.
She does have a tv in her room but doesn’t want to spend her evenings in her room and her younger sister is in bed at 7 and they share a room.
She gets bored and wants to watch tv but Dh wants to game.
I don’t think this is fair as the kids get older and stay up later.

If he wants the lounge tv to himself he should be providing a suitable alternative for you and DD.

Not quite the same as we have no DC at home but there have been times DP has offered to run me a lovely bath with bubbles and candles. It’s not because I’m stinky or him an old romantic. It’s because he knows that gives him at least an hour of gaming on the big tv! I’m happy, he’s happy. Your DH needs to create an equal win/win situation

Advocate for family time. It won’t be long until she doesn’t want to spend time with you.

@JustFrustrated an “all day middle class hobby” as you describe, such as golf/cycling etc doesn’t prevent people from using their own home in a normal fashion, or subject them to observing some man child playing games on the family telly all evening.

No but it does remove them from this sacred “family time” that was the original comments from PPs.

monopolising the tv not good, every night, no. But that wasn’t the original complaint from other PPs.

Selfish man child. The main tv is for everyone. Gaming should be done elsewhere.

This brings back so many memories of my brother, mum and I squished onto an uncomfortable sofa in the kitchen watching the tiny 10 inch TV while my Dad had the whole lounge on his own because there was never a compromise of what to watch. Ever. It was always his choice. That was 35 years ago and I'd like to think things would he fairer now, but obviously not!

If you refused to find time in a day to give yourself a break and enjoy a hobby then that’s up to you. Not everyone has to be a martyr

yes Poor Men we are so worried about them being martyrs.

I have young kids, work and manage to game, solo and with my husband (that’s how we met). I don’t know why having kids means you have to give up stuff you enjoy. I have lots of hobbies, I’m a runner, a Girlguiding leader, I play the piano. I do my hobbies when kids are asleep, at a weekend when they are at an event or a party or DH is taking them too, we both take time for ourselves to pursue our own interests while the other is doing something with kids as well as family
stuff.

We have a whole gaming room though so we don’t have this dilemma! Grin

The OPs husband is being selfish monopolising the main TV. It’s irrelevant what he’s doing. He would be selfish if he was doing it to watch sports too.

For those who think gaming is infantile; do you feel the same about people who follow/watch sports?
