New vs used: baby crib

Hi all, I’ve seen somone near me who is giving their old baby cot away on fb marketplace for free . It’s just the cot , not the mattress but after some googling seems standard sizing (its mother are brand) so I can source a mattress new . Is this something you would steal clear of though ?
i feel somethings people say preloved is fine and other things - for peace of mind it has to be new etc . I’m first time mum to be and just trying to do things right but also consider not spending loads of money on a new crib if preloved is fine?

It's absolutely fine, as long as any fabric looks in good condition, not mouldy or damp, all structurally sound. Definitely you will need a brand new mattress though.

I did this, I cleaned it all down very thoroughly and bought a brand new mattress.

Totally fine imo, we used a second hand bedside crib, and were handed down a cot bed from my BIL and SIL who had used it for their two kids. Just got new mattresses for both and they’ve served us well!

Absolutely fine! I bought my snuzpod second hand and sold it on when I was done to a friend. She had it for her kids and sold it on again!
no need to buy new
