5-6 Year Age Gap?

DD is 4.5 and thinking of having a second child soon. Age gap will be around 5.5 years hopefully. Would love to hear your experiences with this age gap, either with your kids or with siblings of your own, I’m worried it’s too big and their interests will be too different to do things together (9 years between me and my sister and we didn’t get on until she reached her 20s!)… I know I’m overthinking it but this is what we do isn’t it!! :)

My dc were 8&6 when DC3 arrived. It’s worked well, they love having a little sister to dote on ☺️

We have big gaps - currently age 11, 8 and 3. They all get on, especially the 8 and 3 year old. The main challenge is days out when they're interested in different things. The girls love helping their little brother.

It will go in phases, that's what I've learnt. But I don't have an age gap that big

Baby and 6 year old - generally would work. They will miss mum time but independent
Toddler and 8 year old - potentially fun but limiting family experience for 8 year old to toddler friendly stuff
5 and 10- probably still fun
8 and 13 until 13 and 18, interests would probably diverge a lot.

I would say that it would really affect what adventures you can give your eldest but depends if want that

I have 5 years - as Hotdoghnut said - it was great until about 7 and 12. And they’ve fought endlessly for a couple of years (not sure that’s totally age gap related), but at 16 and 11 they’re much better and do
actually choose to spend time together sometimes now 🙂.
