3 year old constantly waking 1 hour after falling asleep

For context, they've never slept through the night ever and always come into our bedroom (will then sleep soundly, so the actual sleep part isn't the issue).

I can handle the bed sharing later in the night, but it's the fact they will consistently wake up upset and crying around 1-1/2 hrs after falling asleep which is basically 9pm e.g I'm on high alert all evening.

Daily routine is 7am and lights out is consistently 7:30pm. No screens from 4pm onwards.

Sometimes they will appear "out of it" which makes me think overtiredness and a form of sleep walking? But the routine times seem appropriate for age?

They fall asleep with me / dad in the room but they don't need us to be constantly stroking back / touch. But do we need to be completely out of the room perhaps?

I've always been so responsive, but I'm waiting for them to show me that it's created some natural independence / security. I feel like I've done something wrong when everyone else's child seems to sleep fine by this age. :(

Heeeellppppp.

Are they toilet trained? Potty break and back to their own bed?
Honestly if it’s only a bother due to public perception, studies show kids who co-sleep score highly in emotional maturity later in life.
Eventually they will spend the night in their own bed.

Thank you, yes potty trained 6 months ago and we always try for wees just before bed.

I'd guess overtired, try bedtime a little earlier, maybe asleep by 7 instead of half 7? Do they nap still or only dropped it recently?

Could be night terrors, my son gets them when he's too hot in bed or overtired. He literally kicks off and cries but when I go in he doesn't acknowledge me or even look at me, I guess he's still asleep.

Statistically it's very common for kids to wake at this age.

That bedtime would be a bit too early for my toddler. Try 8-8.30.

Mine goes to sleep at 9.30pm but he still naps (almost 3). When he drops it I expect bedtime will be 8-8.30.
