My daughter is 13, all was good until she started secondary school, she started making up stories to make new friends, saying she was brought up in a care home, her sister was in prison etc...none of which is true. She then sent photos to her friends of someone who had self harmed...it wasn't her arm...all her friends got worried about her....she then started self harming at the end of year 8 and sending them dark messages about killing herself. She wanted to change schools yr 9 from a girls school to a mixed school, but two weeks in it all started again. She has been referred to camhs, this week I am speaking to doctor, she is under safeguarding at school. Last week she contacted NHS health chat to say she didn't want to live anymore. In august we had two holidays, she was happy, didn't self harm. So I am thinking it's all about trying to fit in, making friends, keeping friends, is getting more socially anxious. I do wonder whether to get her assessed for autism. Any help, suggestions would be truly appreciated please as we don't know which way to turn, thank you.

I would contact Coram for advice. They can signpost you to services in your area and/or offer more practical advice. Coram Family Lives - Parenting and Family Support (they have a helpline you can phone, or a whatsapp service). It would also be worth speaking to the GP about potentially getting an autism assessment referral- they can give you the initial screening form and that can help inform you regardless as the waiting list is very long x
