Solo Mum Needing Universal Credit Certainty

I am very seriously considering leaving my marriage (for reasons not relevant to this post). I have had an appointment with Citezens Advice and sadly I wasn’t offered any solid help or advice whatsoever. I currently own a house with my husband and we have joint equity in that property. My only option would be to leave my marital home and rent a small property for me and my two girls while the house is put on the market and sold. I work PT, earning aprx £26k, run a car etc but no other debt outside of the mortgage. Husband earns significantly more than me but has always made it clear he would want 50/50 custody and wouldn’t leave our marital home for me to stay there while the sale of our house went through. My worry is, with a property that has equity in it would I be entitled to UC? As I would need this to top up my salary. 2-3 bed properties in my area are £1200-1400 a month. I am genuinely terrified about trying to secure a rental and then being refused UC and having £400 a month to cover everything else, which is of course impossible. Can anyone offer any help or advice? Any other solo parents happy to share what their entitlement is against salary? I don’t want my poor girls to be forced into a life of poverty (on my side) because mine and their Dads marriage didn’t work out. Once the house sells I know my situation will be totally different and my entitlement to UC would change but I just need that certainty to bridge the gap short term.

I googled this. Apparently you can't get housing benefit if you own a property with your ex. You will probably get UC but not the housing benefit part. I don't think you should move out. Why can't he move out and you stay till the house is sold.

I have a mortgage which has equity in it, and I claim UC. I do not get the housing element of UC due to having a mortgage as you can not use this towards mortgage payments only rental payments. I am not sure how it works if you are also renting as you can get the housing element to put towards rent. Sorry I’m not much help!! I do receive the rest of the UC entitlement other than the housing element.
