DSis told.my DD(10) about 'massager for her bits'

My DD(10) sometimes stays at my DSis' flat. She finds this very exciting because it's on the 10th floor and the views are amazing and it's just an exciting thing do with DSis who she loves.
It's only a tiny flat and when she stays there, DD has the bedroom and DSis (who lives alone) sleeps on the sofa.

DD came home yesterday after a night at DSis' and later in the day casually mentioned that she had found a 'massager for DSis' bits'!! Obviously I nearly spat my teeth out and asked for details. Apparently DD had been going through the bedside drawer after bedtime, found something and asked DSis what it was in the morning! That was DSis' answer!

I texted DSis who replied with 'OMG I was so embarrassed and didnt know what to say!' I know what vibrator it is, and if it was me I don't think I'd have added the 'for your bits' bit because it doesn't look necessarily like something you'd associate with that. But I guess in the heat of the worlds most embarrassing moment I would possibly have said worse. I apologised for the intrusion and she apologised for saying what she said (no apology needed really, I thought).

I need to stop DD rifling through her drawer though! Wonder what else she has been up to. Trying on clothes?

God why do random things keep coming out of nowhere to test the limits of parenthood. 😃

She definitely needed to have left off ‘for my bits’

What was she thinking?

Probably no harm done though - did Dd understand exactly what was meant by bits?

But at 10 your Dd should know better than to go through people’s drawers!

I know! I can understand DSis.though in that moment of embarrassing horror. I am more bothered about DD going through drawers.

She understands the term 'bits' but I very much doubt she understands why you'd want a massager for them and thankfully she hasn't asked!

Sounds like she just panicked tbh. Teach DD that it’s rude to go through someone else’s things.

Oh god! Yeh I can imagine she just blurted out the first thing that came to her, if she hadn’t of said ‘for your bits’ she might of had visions of your DD wanting a back massage with it or something so it might of been a blessing she added that! I feel sorry for all of you, how embarrassing!

Absolute nightmare for my poor DSis (who didn't want to be talking to me about this I'm sure!). We do actually have a sports massager at home which DD has seen me use on my ankle so I can see a situation where she found DSis' 'massager' and wanted a go! Awful!

Children will go exploring like this.
I think it's part of trying to understand the world.

Obviously she needs to be told about privacy and respect for other's property.
I used to stay at my aunts. In the living room. On the sofa.
Wouldn't it be more appropriate for the child to take the sofa?
She is smaller and the aunt is not being tipped out of her bed and room. Also less temptation re rifling.

I suspect DSis may be thinking of alternative arrangements now but the view always was that it was safer in the bedroom. The lounge has French doors to the balcony 10 floors up, as well as being closer to the front door.

This is something you will laugh about in years to come and hour DD will no doubt be mortified once she is a little older 🤣
Your poor sister, it’s good she said your bits though because if your DD is anything like my DC then she might have wanted to play with it otherwise.

mondaytosunday · 11/10/2026 16:30

Jeez you would think your older daughter would know a ten year old is DEFINITELY going to go through the bedroom drawers!

I know! The more I think of it, the more impossible the right answer becomes. If she said 'bits' it might have prompted questions about why on earth you'd want a massager for your bits. But if she hadn't said it, DD would've wanted a massage herself! 😃

I may be a bit continental in my outlook-but I can’t see anything wrong with telling her. I find the word “bits” horribly dismissive but apart from from that why shouldn’t she know?

JontyGentooey · 11/10/2026 16:40

Oh crikey your poor sister, that's hilarious! I expect she was mortified.

My brother is now in his forties but I vividly remember him coming home from a playdate when he was about 8, and telling all of us "Jake's mum has 3 dicks in her bedroom cupboard. Jake showed us." 😳

I bet Jake regretted that choice when he got older and all his mates kept bringing it up! Blush

My much younger sister also found my toy once when she visited. She only told me about it years later. I’m still embarrassed about it.

When I was in my 20s I worked as a nanny. One day the family had some workmen over to do some repairs, including to a built-in cupboard. The children’s mother and I took the kids to the park while the works were carried out. We came home to find that the builders had emptied the wardrobe, found her vibrator, and left it on the bedroom floor, in full sight. Poor woman, I could tell she was so embarrassed, especially as I had seen it too. Of course the workmen could have pushed it under a pile of clothes, but I guess they thought it was more fun to leave it out, so that she knew that they’d seen it. Men!

OrlandointheWilderness · 11/10/2026 18:10

Well she clearly just panicked. Much as my lovely mum did when I was 7 and told me a tampon was for taking make up off… guess who had a tampon hanging by the string off her wardrobe key for ages to ‘remove make up’! 😂

God that's awful.

My other sister is a few years older than this DSis and me, and we are less close. Years ago she had a big family gathering at her house. There was a queue for the loo so big DSis told me to go and use her en suite. I did, and on the way through her bedroom noticed an absolutely gigantic mains powered magic wand and a vat of lube. I was absolutely astonished. I have never mentioned it to her!
