Feeling silly. A bit insecure!

My eldest just started reception and has taken to it amazing. He loves it. Loves learning tells me about his phonics is more obsessed with counting and numbers. Tells me about the playground his friends etc! So I do feel good as school is longer than nursery

He was in private nursery up until school and he would say he didnt want to go in and we had many drop offs which were tough and he didnt want to go in

But yep he just trots into school! I seen his classmate and their mum and we know them. She was crying and I was chatting to her mum who said she was struggling going in crying etc didnt want to go in

Its silly but I wondered why my ds wasnt like that! I dont see many going in crying tbh so I know its not all the class and only my ds is confident going in

But do your kids / did your kids like school ?

Yes. We never had any trouble going in Reception with our children.

Later on was different for the ND child.

Mine always loved it, she was late spring born so on the younger side too.
I'd say it's about 80% disposition (i.e. luck) - she was always naturally confident, sociable, liked doing new things and meeting new people. School (and nursery before it) suited her.
The other 20% - she was full time in nursery from when I went back to work, we made sure she was school ready, always talked positively about school but were clear it was non negotiable, had a solid routine etc.

Mine has always been happy to go to nursery (started age 1) and then school, other than when ill or dealing with some specific falling out with friends. He's Y3 now and I can count on one hand the number of days he's said he doesn't want to go in. He likes to be busy and with people, so organised entertainment and education is perfect for him.

I'm very thankful and relieved that this isn't a problem for us, as I know it's often not the case!

My eldest hugely struggled with Reception; he went from happily going into nursery 2.5 days a week to crying and refusing to walk on the way into school and being really difficult to leave for months once he started school - it took him ages to make connections with other children and settle with the teachers. (Winter born child, if relevant)

My second born was tearful at drop off for nursery for the full 2 years he went, but is absolutely fine going into Reception. He absolutely loves it and has made some really good friends very quickly. He asks for us to get there as early as possible so he has the most time to play with his friends before they take the register. (Summer born child, if relevant)

You might not be seeing the crying as they would often take my eldest into a different room to calm down as apparently once one is crying it was a domino effect for the others so they did it to avoid mass hysteria...

Mine cried going into nursery so I was worried about him starting school. He started this September and he just walks straight in with no issues. I’m actually so relieved and proud of him!

Yes, mine loved school, esspecaly reception. Some children reality hits after a couple of months though, the novelty wears off.
